Hello all,
My name's John (codename: SgtZappa) and I'm an unrepentant old school gamer who has continued my favorite hobby into my early 30s.
A little background - I'm sure like many of you I grew up playing classic arcade games from Pac Man to Dig Dug to Donkey Kong. My favorite arcade games of all time include Galaxia, Space Invaders, and Gauntlet. My parents worried about me playing too many games but finally broke down and bought me an Atari 2600 when I was in fifth grade - Pit Fall remains my favorite Atari title.
I got somewhat into computer games in high school, starting with Sid Meier's Pirates. However, school/sports/girls took over a lot of my time and I drifted away from gaming except for the occassional Mortal Kombat match or flight computer sim.
What brought me back was actually a stint in the Army. That's when I discovered the Warcraft and Starcraft series, Doom, Civilization, and Diablo. Nowadays I play WOW, Guild Wars, and Company of Heroes, but definately I became a dedicated PC gamer in the military.
After leaving Uncle Sam's Adventure Club I went back to school, studied tech writing, and launched a career in high tech. I currently work as a content writer/editor for MSN (or as I like to joke, I'm a contractor on the Death Star). I also freelance for Game Chronicles magazine - here's a link to my staff writer bio and a list of previous game reviews:

So why do I want to joing TOG? I'm finding it tough to find mature, quality online friends both to adventure and compete with. For example, I don't mind losing a PVP or RTS match except when the other guy spams "ZOMG U GURGLE MAYO LOL!!! ARTARD!!" I also like the look of the site and it seems the community is into a lot of the games I like - from strategy to MMOGs.
If accepted here are the games I'd be most interested in meeting new friends for:
1. Strategy titles - I love
Company of Heroes but it's hard to find good partners who play for fun, not ego-inflating. Also interested in
Warhammer Mark of Chaos and even turnbased games like
Civ IV.
2.
Guild Wars - I'm currently a member of ULGG -a proud and longstanding guild in the game. Unfortunately, only a few members of my guild are into PVP and I've found myself wanting to explore the more competitive side of the game. I'm not saying I'm L33T but I can play a decent curses necro, interrupt ranger, and am working on perfecting my paragon. I also always put the team first. I'd love to join up with members of TOG for missions/Team Arenas, possibly working my way up to GVG and HA.
3.
WOW - As a longtime Warcraft fan from the original game, I've found myself wanting to get back in the action. My old guild pretty much went inactive and I find it hard to be motivated to stay in a game without good friends. Looking to possibly reactivate my account before Burning Crusade comes out.
Thanks again and I look forward to meeting everyone,
John
PS: My exact age is 32 and I've read/agree with all guild terms of agreement. (LOL I'm an idiot for working at Microsoft, land of the legal disclaimer, and not clearly stating in my intro post that I agree to all rules/regs).
PS2: At this time I'm not looking to leave my current GW guild ULGG - but I hope to meet members of the TOG guild and join up for the occasional Team Arena/GVG/Alliance Battle match with them.
