I'm a 35 year old gamer with twin 6-year-old girls. I have been playing games since the Atari \ Intellivision years and I still love classic arcade games (have a full sized Mame Arcade game and an all original TRON game in my basement). I was a big Doom player, and even played online with a short-lived service called DWANGO. Moved up to Quake and was very active with a Clan I created called the Clan of the Caveman. We were one of the original 100 quake clans and we used to have LAN parties with Quake, Quake 2, Quake 3 Arena, Unreal, Sin, etc. That was of course until my twins were born 6 years ago; the LAN parties were over for me. So with the limited time I had on hand to play games I got a PS2 and was playing that online for a few years with Socom, and a few other games.
I was never impressed with the PS2s online selection; my brother suggested I try an Xbox 2 years ago. Wow what a difference, you can jump right into a game in minutes with a relatively common interface, not the case in the PS2 world. I had only been using it a few weeks, and I was already annoyed at the incessant non-sense chatter and put downs from the hordes of 11-16 year olds playing online (was the same on PS2 in Socom, but many of the other games did not use the headset). Then I was fortunate enough to meet up with TOG UNK online in GOW. Just got Rainbow Six and I am trying that out this week. I am glad I found you guys and I am excited about the possibility of playing with intelligent adults who use the headset for what it was intended for, friendly chatter and actual team direction.
Thanks again for created such a fantastic community that will hopefully solve the biggest detractor from online gaming. By the way I also have a few websites I run you may want to check out, besides being an avid gamer I am also a big sci-fi fan. I am the president and maintainer of the Battlestar Galactica Fan Club.
Thank You
