Greetings and Salutations.
Please allow me to introduce myself, I am the original entity known as Cadder - Cad by name, CAD by trade, cad by nature.
I've been a gamer since.. ooh.. since I first picked up an atari 2600 joystick at about age ten.. that was roughly 30 years ago this year. Puberty, a career in CAD drafting and IS Engineering, a marriage, a divorce, the present happier relationship and 4 kids later, I'm still trying to find the time to indulge in arranging pixels on the screen in an enjoyable manner.
Yes, that means I'm old enough to remember Space Invaders, Asteroids, Leisure Suit Larry (Huge 80's Sierra fan. Completed all the Larries and SQs) and Infocom's Hitchikers Guide to the Galaxy when text adventures were still exciting.
My gaming interests are many and varied, from the collection of favourite old classics on the MAME box that I never quite finished building the cabinet for (1942 and Galaxian rock!), to GTA:San Andreas that I finished last year (No, I didn't get anywhere near 100%, but I did complete the story missions...) to Lego Star Wars with the kids, and a bunch of other stuff in between.
As for competitive games, I very much enjoyed head-to-head F1GP and Doom2, spending many a sleepless night shooting the living crap out of my neighbor (we had a custom-made laplink cable between the two houses...) and multiple time champ of Rise of the Triads (if anyone remembers it?) office lunchtime LAN challenge series, through to Descent and Quake.
I created several Doom2 Levels that were distributed about the etherways from one BBS to another that proved fairly popular at the time (about 12 years ago)..
But that was many moons ago and before I had access to this newfangled "internet" thing.
Not quite sure what happened.. real life (and IRC and eBay) kinda got in the way a bit for 10 years.
Then, after finding out that coworkers in two different offices on different sides of the country were TOG members and them both recommending I join, here I am. (Cutitup and XCEL8-2-50+ to namedrop)
Now.. apart from downloading Skulltag the other night to rekindle my love for Doom2, (Hey, I was one of the dozen or so people that actually paid money to see the movie) I'm not really au-fait with any of the more recent online internet-based games... therefore would be more than happy to have some recommended to me by your good selves and fellow members.
(I'm also itching to try out Skulltag against real human opponents...)
So, having read in great detail the AUP, the FAQ, the WTF and the DCM, and been completely unable to find any law against joining and lurking for a while until I discover (or rediscover) an appropriate (or inappropriate) game (or six) to sink my teeth into, I'm now patiently waiting with bated breath to be accepted as a TOG. Or a Togger. Or a TOGophile. or whatever (what is the correct nomenclature?).
My other interests include web dev, adding to my already-burgeoning DVD collection, movies in general (particularly Sci Fi of almost any kind) my kids of course, bagging out my ex wife, and good quality scotch.
Being an IS engineer, I also have a collection of computers on a home LAN, each named after SciFi robots/computers.
Cheers, thanks for reading my drivel, and regards,
Cadder.
