New Member Application
Hi everyone!
I am really keen to become a member of TOG after playing as a guest on the servers over the past few weeks. To get the formalities out of the way, allow me to address the criteria...
1. I am 34 years of age...(soon to be 35, but let's not talk about that)
2. I have actually found and read the AUP and the FAQ. I found the FAQ to be particularly interesting and it did answer most if not all of my questions.
3. I also read the furom and server guidelines, which were a little similar to most other I have come across, but they did have that special charm about them.
Next, I am here in Adelaide at the moment. Originally from Perth, then married a SA girl and next thing I know I'm packing my stuff to move here. No regrets mind, it's a nice town.
My usual (if you can call it usual) times of play are after my two daughters are tucked-up in bed. I have a 4-month old "Ashlin" and a 2-year old "Lily". So I'm usually on after 9PM and then only for an hour or so. I find that at this time of night my reaction time isn't that great and so I tend to play "sniper mode" in COD2, as it gives me time to focus and shoot. It amazes me how these other players manager to get a head-shot over about half a virtual mile without taking time to focus or aim on me! Ah well, I guess that's just practice, good eyesight and a lot of youth (well, that's my story and I'm sticking to it!).
I've been mainly playing COD2 online as it's the only game I have that I enjoy playing online with others. I have only tried Battlefield and Stars Wars Battle Front other than COD2, so there may be games that suit my slow reaction time that I'm not aware of.
My other interests tend to be around movies (comedy, sci fi), amateur astronomy, guitar, Irish Tin whistle and of course my little girls.
What attracted me to TOG I hear you ask??
I guess I am starting to realise that there are some very smart and very able young gamers out there who naturally raise the level of onlin ecompetition wel above anything i could ever hope to reach. Coming from an age when I was almost always the one to get the top score on Space Invaders down at the local fish and chip store, and then to graduate to being one of the first to own a Commodore 64 (yes I skipped the VIC 20) and spending 3 months playing ELITE to achieve a rank of "Elite" just to discover that the "competition" had expired and was only relevant for residents of the U.S...Anyway, I miss playing against people of the same age and ability of me. That is not to suggest that I have the level of skill that would allow me to compete with the more serious gamers, but at least I know I'm being beaten by someone who knows what I mean when I say that I really hated it when the coloured cellophane came off the Spave Invader machine and I had to play it in black and white! Plus, I had to contend with the afternoon (or after school) sun shining over my shoulder, making the whole screen washed out.
Anyway, enough from me. Hope I get my application accepted, but if not, then perhaps I'll still see you around the traps.
Cheers,
H3lix
