Hello, all. Nice to meet you.
For the record, I meet the stipulations outlined of being at least 25 and having read the AUP and FAQ.
Currently, I am mostly a MMORPGer, but I do delve into turn-based strategy (e.g., Civilization IV) and single-player RPG (e.g., Neverwinter Nights 2) at times. I got my start with video games at the age of six when my mother saved up enough money to purchase me an NES for Christmas. Oh the days of Super Mario Bros., RC Pro Am, and the first Final Fantasy.
I played mostly console games during my childhood, but, with the introduction of the family's first computer, I fell in love with PC strategy and RPG games: MOO, MOM, UA, EOB2, and the like. Over the years, I have progressed away from console games toward PC games since they tend to be so much more expansive, interactive, and aesthetically pleasing. At this point in my life, I think my PS2, which my wife and I use solely as a DVD player anymore, will be the last console I ever buy.
FFXI was my first MMORPG, and I played it for about a year before I grew tired of endlessly searching for XP parties. I had a great linkshell back then, though: Guardians of Ragnarok on the Ragnarok server. I was an officer in the linkshell and the webmaster for its web site (now defunct, so no links unfortunately). I decided I was not a fan of the constant need to party, and so I left. What can I say, I'm a bit of a free spirit.
My current MMORPG is WoW. I thoroughly enjoy the casual-friendly leveling and questing in WoW, but the casual-unfriendly end game is wearing on me. I have also had very poor experiences with guilds and other facets of the WoW community. Thus, I am looking for something new, and to that end I have become very interested in LOTRO.
That is actually what has brought me to your boards here: the post on the LOTRO forums about The Osgiliath Guard kinship. The biggest problem I have always had (in MMORPGs at least) is finding a fun, mature community to play with. Multiplayer online games require you to play with others at least to some extent (read: no matter how casual-friendly), so it is very important to find good people to play with. To that end, I am interested in TOG since its approach to gaming is similar to my own. I am not interested in being "uber" or having "1337 skillz" or "pwning nubs" or stacking on "ZOMGZ EPIX." What I am interested in is playing good games with good people. I want to enjoy my gaming, not compare "e-peens." I am hoping I can do so with you all.
