Confused
Default Can someone please explain this? (Origin for Retail Copies)

As someone who prefers "real" DVD's and stuff, what does this mean in plain English? Is it a problem?

Retail copies of Battlefield 3 will still require EA's Origin

Cheers.

Means what it says, I guess. Even with a retail version you will have to log onto Origin, and to log onto Origin you need Origin running. DRM is becoming completely inescapable.

yeah what he said. I always assumed that this was always the case.... now its just confirmed. i actually have it already installed to see what the fuss is about. Its very much a steam clone, and in its current state not particularly 'invasive'

One thing I like about origin is that you can use the cd-key for bad company 2 steam edition on origin, and also have the game going via that

Retail is just one way on how you buy the game ... Origin is another the way you can buy the game plus it is also the MAIN launcher / verifier for all versions of the game ....

ahh I'm getting a bit sick of having to open and keep track of an account for every online game I play but I guess it's inevitable.

The only way to prevent piracy of PC games is to have an always online system.
Every AAA title is going to have it in the future.

I did the same, I don't have too much of an issue with it, so long as it is not a resource hog.

It's basically just like what Valve did when they introduced Steam with Half Life 2.
