Battlestar Galactica Online

Hi guys

Battlestar Galactica Online has launched. I've just tried it out today and its bloody brilliant! Check it out here : Battlestar Galactica Online | The BSG SciFi Game, Battle for Victory

Its a browser based game. Yes I moaned at that too, but when I launched the game... what I saw amazed me! For a browser based game its full featured and has better graphics than a lot of other MMOs I've played. Most importantly it runs silky smooth. Theres no installation, and logging in is easy, especially if you have a facebook account. Just log in, hit LAUNCH and away you go.

It seems to play like a simpler version of EvE in that your skill progression is time based. There are 2 factions. Human and Cylon of course :) There is open world PvP and territory control.

It also helps the situation that I'm a MEGA battlestar fan!!! So far I love it :)

Check it out guys :)

Oh wow, awesome. I signed up for the beta ages ago but never got an invite.
Ridiculously excited....

looks like it is still in beta as it won't let me login to the game.

Its an open beta. It should let you. Try making a new account or log in through facebook?

I did create an account and it was a no go. I don't do facebook.

Huh? You don't need Facebook (I don't have it either). Sign up here: Battlestar Galactica Online | The BSG SciFi Game, Battle for Victory and simply click the Launch button.

I've been in the closed beta since it started in October and I rather enjoy the game. It still has some issues, but they devs have been fairly good and listening to suggestions and it certainly shows promise.

I was skeptical about the browser thing too, but as the OP said, it looks great and runs smoothly.

The Open Beta started today. No date set for official launch yet.

PS. If you want to play with all new players, choose one of the new servers. The old ones are full of high-level folks from the closed beta. They didn't do a character wipe this time.

It's running on the Unity engine which rivals Unreal for features. Unity is also used for Wii, 360, PS3 and iPhone/iPad development.

Be sure to turn the graphics slider up full in the game options menu (little button in the top right) as this will also enable anti-aliasing and higher resolution textures/bump maps ect.

You can actually download the indie version of Unity for free here:

Which servers are ppl playing on?

I'm on Caprica as Cylon

Kess 10th February 2011 04:38 PM

I'm Cylon on Scorpia. Caprica is a new server and not nearly as well populated as Scorpia.

I tested in the closed beta and biggest problem I found was input lag in flight. Using the keyboard was virtually impossible due to pressing a key and then waiting afull second then your ship turns violently in the direction you indicated. Mouse control was somewhat better but you simply could not turn fast enough compared with keyboard.

I figured that this would be a permanent problem for Aussie users due to the game essentially being run server side rather than client side.

Can any Aussie users confirm if the input lag in flight still exists or have they corrected this problem between closed and open beta?
