New maps for WCS S2 KR RO32 are replaced26

The OGN has announced that the maps for the WCS 2013 Season 2 KR OSL Ro32 held on June 18 have been changed.

Gwangalli Beach and Anaconda were planned to be used in Match 1 and 2 of RO32, but now they are replaced by Bel'Shir Vestige. Additionally, the map for Losers’ match and Winners’ match is Newkirk Redevelopment Precinct (SPL map, not Newkirk Precinct). Whirlwind is the map for the last round.

These changes are made because of the worries from fans and other insiders. After OGN announced the format and maps for the new OSL, members in many forums complained that it was too hasty to use the two new maps because it wasn’t decided if they were balanced. In addition, the Ro32 format is Dual Tournament, thus using new maps in Match 1 and 2 is improper.

Half of all gamers are almost women

A new report from The Entertainment Software Association has found that women make up nearly half (45 percent) of all gamers. The findings are part of the 2013 Essential Facts About the Computer and Video Game Industry, conducted by Ipsos MediaCT and based on a poll of more than 2,000 "nationally representative" households.

The report also found that adult women (31 percent) represent a "significantly" greater portion of the gamer population that boys 17 and younger (19 percent). In addition, according to the group's findings, women are 46 percent of the time the most frequent game purchasers.

The report also highlighted trends regarding how closely parents monitor what their children purchase. According to the findings, parents are present when games are purchased 89 percent of the time, while children receive parents' permission to purchase or rent a game 80 percent of the time.

PS4 DC Universe Online, PlanetSide 2 not require PlayStation Plus subscription

Sony Online Entertainment, publisher of PS4 said on E3 that no requirement for PlayStation Plus subscription to play DC Universe Online and PlanetSide 2 when they launch PS4 in later 2013.

Sony announced during E3 that a PlayStation Plus membership is required for online multiplayer in PS4 games, leading some to question whether free-to-play games would be exempt from the platform's subscription requirements.

"As far as free-to-play games are concerned, it's a publisher's decision whether they put it inside or outside of the PlayStation Plus requirements," Sony Computer Entertainment Worldwide Studios President Shuhei Yoshida said.

Yoshida also said that PS4 Digital Extremes' Warframe and Zombie Studios' Blacklight: Retribution will be free and no demand on PlayStation Plus subscription.

The Dead Space series is a "great brand" for Electronic Arts, but a new entry in the series not in active development, the publisher has confirmed.

"I wouldn't say [the Dead Space franchise is] cancelled at all," EA Games boss Patrick Söderlund said. "Dead Space remains a brand that is close to Electronic Arts' heart. It's been a great brand for us done by a very passionate team."
Söderlund explained that Dead Space 3 developer Visceral Games is now working on an "exciting new project," which he believes is a better fit for the studio than a fourth entry in the action-horror series.

"Is that team working on a Dead Space game today? No they're not," he said. "They're working on something else very exciting. You have to think of it from that perspective. Is it better to put them on the fourth version of a game they've done three previous versions of before? Or is it better to put them on something new that they want to build, that they have passion for?"

Visceral Games is one of three EA studios working on all-new Stars Wars games, joining DICE and BioWare.
Some source said in March that Dead Space series was called off because of the fail of Dead Space 3, and EA denied that.

Having now seen what both consoles can do, that's clear to me because gamers have been persuaded by a very slick, shiny presentation which preceded the E3 festivities last Monday. Riddling your press conference attendees with alcohol and free food from multiple cuisines tends to get people up on their seats. Sony's presentation was fun, though, and I think the cheesy competitiveness is good for the industry, which I feel is a bit stale.

One of my biggest disappointments of E3 was Knack, a launch day platformer that looked the goods to show off the PS4's capabilities. It plays like a PS2 game and looks like a glossy, shiny PS3 downloadable title. I won't be surprised if it ends up a download-only title. Infamous: Second Son looks great, though, as does Killzone.

But they are just games, and I left Los Angeles feeling that the entire new generation of gaming consoles lacks the excitement of last generation.

Microsoft, while still part of that stale and trivial new generation, is in a different situation, because it showed to journalists the Xbox One in a different light.

NPD: retail sales of Deep Silver and Nintendo strong in May

Monthly retail sales report in the US has been revealed by the NPD Group. Nintendo and up-and-coming publisher Deep Silver perform well.

Because this report only includes traditional boxed retail sales, and not digital spend; used game sales; rentals; and online retail, it’s no longer considered a good indicator of the health of the industry. It is, however, an excellent peek at how those new physical sales are trending, and the view this month is grim.

Total industry spends dropped by 25% year-on-year to $386.3 million. Hardware fell 31% to $96 million; accessories fell 6% to $115.3 million, and last but definitely not least, software fell a whopping 44% to $187.6 million.

The NPD’s Liam Callahan blamed the release drought; last year, April and May enjoyed a significant spike off the back of one major release.

Harold Ryan, Bungie president says Destiny 'graphics are different on different platforms.

What isn't clear is whether this means between the PS4 and Xbox One (as is asked in the question Ryan's responding to) or between the next-gen and current gen versions.

Responding to our question on what kind of special features we can expect for PS4 and Xbox One for Destiny, Ryan replies: "We’re not committing right now to any specific platform features. The great thing for us with timing is that we were making a new engine, and then two new consoles were coming out, which led us to invest more into making the new engine for it.

“We have many opportunities to pursue, including full player experiences. We are looking into these and creating the core experience of Destiny, which will be similar across all the platforms. Its graphics are different from platform to platform, but the game will be excellent on all of them in a connected world.”
