In Combat Sniping

After reading a few posts from Drae, I wanted to trial the idea of a sniper who worked in combat. Looking very hard at it from the perspective of being a formidable opponent in Ladder Matches.

After a week of intense work I've come to the realization that the in Combat Sniper just doesn't offer the possibilities of a medic. I know I know it's a different class. BUT...

In direct relation to keeping tickets and killing quickly I really think that the medic option is a better way to go.

1. Medics can heal themselves and mates.
2. Medics can easily kill as quick at distance with the m60
3. Recon assault demo's are near useless unless defending.
4. Mortars are useless against coming up against infantry and tank drivers who don't know how to move.
5. The in combat guns semi and automatic just don't offer the punch up close that is needed and are too awkward up close to be realistically usable.
6. Motion sensor doesn't last long enough to be useful - especially when not playing with an assault mate.

I will keep working on this... as I think it is a much needed area in Ladder games. The possibilities are great but I think only if they are worked in with a workable squad. ie. medic engi assault and recon working together - but each would need to be proficient at each.

If you have a good sniper who can play the assault role with resupply bonus for team ... he can use the M16A2 with Acog 4 x scope , noob tube and extra explosion damage ...

This kit is a very good asault kit plus has the added bonus of acting as a dam good sniper kit in a lot of cases / maps due to 4 x acog scope but you dont lose the ability of a quick fire gun when needed in CQB ..

The downside of this setup is you lose a M95 rifle which can take down choppers

all true, but i think the answer might be simply to nerf some of the weapons, M60 at the head. Otherwise as Tilce says, with 8v8 it'sa two-class game. And one class if there's no armour...

well as u know from 2142 the sniper was useless... unless he has some real talent and the ability to avoid a rocket or 40mm grenade after hes discovered.

but as u said the recon would be best utilised for his motion sensors. armed with say a shotgun or g3. would need an assault buddy feeding him ammo to make him really effective to keep the sensors up.

ive had quite alot of success teaming up with my brother 1 assault, 1 recon with shotty. very effective at cleaning up control points. mind u with a medic or 2 wed be unstoppable with the res support.

oh and dont under estimate the C4, stick two of those bad boys on a tank take 3 steps back and instant kill. we used the assault as a diversion while the recon flanked and gave the tank a present
