Friends List issue

Ok I have a small issue with my friends lists on my XBL and PSN accounts and I thought I had better discuss it before I do something drastic.

Both these friends lists are full of players I never game with (never did in many instances). Some are friends of friends, some are Ex-Members of this Division and some are ... well to be truthful I have no freakin idea who they are.

I had first decided to keep players on friends list in case they were TOGers that may come back, but I have come to the conclusion that if they do, I can add them again then.

So I thought I would do a clean out. For one I am sick of always seeing "Such and Such" is now online / offline while I am playing a game (It is a real mood killer!)

But is their an etiquette involved here? Does the person I "Delete" get notified that I kicked them to the curb? Do I get removed from their friends list? Am I suppose to send a "Hey, no idea who you are so I am giving you the arse" message first?

What do you guys think?

On a side note: Is there a way to add notes to names listed in your friends list?

They will not get a message to say you kicked them, but i will know if you kick me :P

Yup. We will know if you kick us mate. We have way's of finding out.

They will not know that you have dropped them until they try and send you message which in likely hood will never happen. Who is to say they haven't done this to you already.

i've added & deleted nearly 300 people for various reasons. the PS3 can only handle a finite number of friends at a time. don't feel bad about deleting if you've never played with them or dont communicate in any way, because it's not going to make any difference to your interactions with them (seeing there is no interaction anyway lol ).

if u keep a friends list above 50 or 60, then it slows down operations when u want to send PSN messages, invites, or just viewing who's online doing what.

some games, ie GTA-4 encounters serious issues when u have more than 50 friends. the in game invite system fails completely.

You could base it on the time they last logged in.

Set a cut off point and drop them in the fist instance.

The second group would be the I don't play games with them anymore group.

I have to admit I have dropped everyone on my friends list a few times.

When the player list gets posted on TOG I usually add them again based on who is on the list or who is playing the same game.

I have no other friends other then TOG players and family members.

Not really. As you said, it's easy enough to reinvite someone.

Not unless you really harbour such guilt feelings that you won't be able to sleep unless you do so.
In which case, I'd recommend NOT taking your shrink off your PSN friends list.

No. But this is the reason I have "TOG|Cadder" in my comment list. So others know who the f*ck I am. (Just in case it isn't obvious that Cadder=Cadder_au)
The thing that throws me is knowing who is a TOGger when their names are different from their PSN name. I wish we could add comments too.
(Chief, I nearly dropped you off my PSN list a couple of weeks ago 'cos I couldn't remember who you were!)

That's a good idea. I have a few friends who are game-specific too. If I don't remember who they are, it's usually a safe bet that they're fellow Paradise Burners.

Maybe suggest it. I don't think it's necessary to mandate or request it.
