Wii: WE just bought a Wii!

I play the Wii mostly with my girls.. tennis and Mario games.

We seem to be getting more and more into the 'Sing_Star' karaoke games at the moment. I hire out the games - and bought a cheapie Wii microphone here online

My favourite game on my Wii is house of the dead overkill. I bought the edition which came with the revolver gun shells to hold the Wii Remote.

Its heaps of fun. Especially with a friend shooting at the same time.

You would be surprised at how many kids play this MA rated game with the guiness book of record for the most swear words in a computer game (I think it was around 300).

I am sure he will appropriate it for his own use when the kids are at school.

Also Sid Meier's Pirates has just had the Xbox version ported over. It only rated 6.0 at gamespot due to dodgy dancing controls and a bit of problem with the sword fighting, but its the same great game.

I like the Wii exclusive bombardment mode where you have a sideways shooting mode to take out all the town defence guns before they sink your ship. If you succeed you can appoint a new governor sympathetic to your faction/

I just bought 1 of the lot of 10 being sold by Futuretronics in Burwood Victoria for A$89.95 with A$15-00 postage (free pickup if you can get to Burwood).

Its pretty good value as its effectively a Wii Remote with a nunchuk in a nice package for FPS games on the Wii.

I am also thinking of getting this from a seller in Winnepeg Canada.

In house of the dead, Overkill, it would be cool to reload the shotgun using the slide pump to blow away those zombies.

EDIT: I won't be buying the Buckshot as even though it looks cool, it has fundamental design flaws like the wii remote buttons being covered over by the housing so you don't have access to the other buttons like +/- and 1 and 2 buttons or the on off switch on the remote.

Also, you need to pull the slide completely back or it won't depress the A and reload. It also is front heavy so it will be tiring to hold and play for the long term.

So its design flaws mean that it will make your game play worse than using a controller which allows you direct access to the A button so you will not suffer misloads, especially if you are getting tired and can't fully pull back the pump slide to full lock position.

If you are looking for a better designed shotgun peripheral, check out the Activision and its Red Octane subsidiary's new Top Shot Elite which will also be available on the Xbox and Playstation.

Note for the PS3 and XBox 360, They will be giving you a free sensor bar so the Wii like functionality will be available.

Just like the Wii Fit was the must have peripheral in the last few years, it likes like 2010-11 will be the year of the light gun game as both Sony and Microsoft launch their motion controllers.

It has a pump action slide as well as an adjustable shoulder brace.

Try Sid Meiers Pirates as the second player has the lame job of playing a fiddle to help improve your dancing to woo a governor's daughter or acting as a squaking parrot to assist in your sword fightings or trimming the sails during a sea fight.

As the reviews said, its a crappy extension of the existing gameplay and would have been better dropped from the game altogether.

For anyone older than 10 years old, it would be a pretty lame role to play. But for a five year old, its not difficult and they will get a sense of accomplishment from helping you succeed in wooing a governor's daughter or beating an enemy swordsman into submission.


Anyway, if you like this type of game (eg. Pirates/Swashbuckling/Sea Battles in the age of Sail) and want to try something similar in multiplayer cooperative team combat, you can also consider joining me in Pirates of the Burning Sea (PotBS) when it goes Free to play in the near future.

Q: How is two player mode? On the Xbox we were only able to fight each other, so how is it different and how would you access it?


A1: The second player can just help during the main adventure. They can help you in duels as a parrot, or on the sea to adjust your sails (makes you go faster), or during a dance as a musician, or as another cannoneer during city bombardment. These things help a little, but are not required by any means.
