DLC content

Hi all first post here is a question regarding DLC content as above.

My oldest came home today and said his friend gave him a USB with some DLC stuff on it so he didn't have to pay for it himself?? so my question is can he do this or will the content be linked only to the origional account that was used to get it and is it a breach of any xbox licence?

I've told him he's not putting it on my machine until I find out if it is possible.

I think I've found the answer to my own question Am I able to transfer DLC with my friend without transferring licenses witha USB? - Xbox.com

Indeed that is the correct information and here is a little more for clarity.

DLC is linked to both the Account and Console.
The account that pays for the dlc can download and play it on any console.
The original console that the dlc was payed for and first downloaded on; anyone can use that dlc.

It can get a little tricky with console licenses (needing to be re-validated or re-downloaded) but in theory if you take the time to buy all your dlc on a friends console you will both be able to make use of it. I have done this with my kids console.

You need to have control of the content that the DLC is linked too, and when you recover the gamertag, you also need to perform a download licenses transfer to your current console so everyone on that system can use it.

Due note, once this license transfer happens, your friend loses control of his XBL Account, and DLC untill he transfers control back, but you cant transfer more then once per year. This is mainly used for buying new systems or repairs for when they have to swap out systems.

Thanks for the replys guys but I think he already gave back the usb.
Guess he'll just have to get a job and pay for his own DLC lol he is 18 after all. :D
