Default Playstation Vita

Anyone know much about this new hand held console to replace the PSP?

Ive heard that its current release date is the fall of this year and here in the uk it will retail around £230. Seems very expensive considering you can get a PS3 for a few pounds more.

I assume it would have the power of a PS3 for that sort of money?

I think I'll be buying a US or Japanese model. Assuming they remain region free it's not an issue and will save quite a lot of money.

My PSP is a Japanese one and I love it, still use it almost every day.

Since the Aussie dollar wasn't so strong at the time plus our sunshine and beaches tax that's always there, I saved around $150 by buying a Japanese model.

PS Vita will be $249/299 USD depending on which model you get and rumoured to be $349/399 for Australia.

I didnt realise there were region free PSP's the uk market seems very poor with regards to demos for it. When you look at all the demos that are available to the Japanese.

If the price is right i might look at importing one on release although the shipping costs will be very high. I really dont understand why they make things so expensive for the Aust market, surely theres more money in the USA, i free really sorry for you guys there.

With regards to models ive heard there will be two types, the standard model (Wi-Fi) and the Wi-FI + 3G version. My phone is 3g but to be honest i have no idea really what its all about after all i just use it for phone calls. Theres about £50 in the price difference.

I agree. 3G is overrated.

Seeing as though the PSPgo was a fail, I would guess that backwards compatibility will actually be a consideration for them this time

It doesn't use UMD so games on disk obviously won't work but they confirmed that all downloadable games will be backwards compatible.

In fact each game will be individually optimised for the device, graphics smoothed & upscaled and some titles will even utilise the dual analogue sticks.

Good news for the 3 people who own a PSPgo and those who don't own a PSP at all but not so great for those with a collection of UMDs
