ps2 on ps3
 

ok tried to play a ps2 game on my ps3 but it says this version of ps3 does not play ps2 games

is there a way to play them? or didn't they make it backwards compatible

if not why the ps2 memory card option?

Only certain older models are backwards compatible.

The memory card option is there because all PS3s use the same firmware.

Yeap its only the originally made ps3's like chief has said that were able to play Ps2 games unfortunately. It has something to do with the cost of the licence so sony said. It cost to much. Thats why if you try to buy old ps3's they cost an absolute fortune. Its a bit of a pain really as there are lots of great ps2 games i would love to play like FF10 without having to have another console out on display but still.

All Ps3s however play ps1 games ok so thats something. It remains to be seen if the ps4 will be backwards compatible.

I probably won't buy PS4 until it's 5 years in its development if I buy it at all . Besides there are so many ps3 games yet for me to try.

I can't see a PS4 being offered for at least another 1 - 2 years and I think it will run Blueray and PS1 games as the current one does. PS2 games will be interesting to see if they give them to us in the new machine.

Ive read talk about the PS4 and i know its probably just hearsay but it said something about it was leaked somehow and that the PS4 is already in production, maybe it has something to do with the new nintendo released next year i dont really know.

Personally after the problems with sony im not really sure i would buy the PS4 anyway, since all the new final fantasy games still seem to go microsofts way as well as sonys (and the reason i have a console) i would probably buy their next console instead, providing of course its technology is at least equal to the current sony console.

lol what? The 360 got one inferior FF13 port and I doubt the 360 version of XIII-2 will be much of an improvement. Meanwhile Versus XIII is still a PS3 exclusive, the PSP has had the 2 Dissidia games, Crisis Core and several remakes of older FF titles. The only reason the 360 saw FFXIII at all is because Sqaure Enix are trying to rebrand themselves outside of Asia.

I think you underestimate how big the Final Fantasy series is in Japan, and how much they hate the Xbox 360. Sony is more popular in Japan and therefore will be the home of Final Fantasy for a long time to come.

I wouldn't worry about PS4 now though, going by the current cycles it should be another 3 years away.

According to amazon final fantasy XIII-2 will be released on the Xbox 360 at the same time as the PS3, lets face it microsoft have an unlimited amount of money pretty much so if they want Versus XIII they will have it unfortunately. As for the bad port of XIII, i cant say there as i dont have an 360 or know anyone who has played it on the 360. I remember it being a PS3 exclusive originally and being really ticked off when i heard it was going to be released on the 360.

As for being rebranded outside of Asia that kinda sounds like corporate politics, lets face it who hasnt heard of square enix world wide anyway? Especially with the take over of Eidos for the new Tomb Raider games, its more like they were offered just to much money to say no.

I do appreciate japans dislike of the 360 and although im not a massive fan of SOE (no problems with their electrical stuff including the PS3) i do like the fact that all FF games get on Sony's consoles past and present.

I believe the old fatter style ps3's play ps2 titles, but NOT the new slim versions.

Compatibility loss is the price to pay for more storage capacity and a less noisy system.
