Howdy pilgrims,
I’d like to get the DC round robin under way before the end of this month. Every clan that has shown interest in the Desert Combat round robin tournament is being asked: a. which of the three proposed formats would your clan prefer? b. would your clan prefer to play a match every week, or every fortnight? Clans have 10 days to submit their preferences (which should give you guys ample time to mull it over). A clan representative is required to email me your clans preference (to wog4hire@hotmail.com) by Thursday 25th of August. In the case that you’ve missed the discussion(on the GA DC forum) re RR format, i’ve outlined the three formats below; Format 1 - A minimum of 6 a side is set (so that Dr and BA can field a team on a regular basis). Anything higher than 6 is fine, as long as both teams agree. - The RR organiser creates a draw/schedule for the season. - The RR organiser picks a map for every round of the draw at random from a list of 6 v 6 suitable maps. - The season starts. - Then all your team has to do is get in contact with your opponent (preferably as early in the scheduled round as possible), in order to arrange a date/time to play your match. With regards to realistic 6 v 6 maps, this would leave us with: -Al Nas CTF and CQ – with the Stryker being out of bounds (ie neither team shall be allowed to use it). -Basrah Nights CTF -Basrah Nights CQ – though it might need to be tested in a 6 v 6 scenario, because despite it being a small map, it may have too many flags for it to be fun/worth playing. -Berlin CTF and CQ – with the Stryker being out of bounds. -Bridge CTF and CQ -Stalingrad CTF -No Fly Zone CTF – though it might need to be tested in a 6 v 6 (for reasons discussed on the GA DC forum). Now unless i’ve missed a map, that list of 10(perhaps 11) doesn’t give us much to choose from (as far as variety is concerned). Could make for a stale RR imo, but it’s better than nothing. Format 2 - The RR organiser creates a random draw/schedule for the season. - The season starts. - Teams then have to get in contact with each other every round (as early in the scheduled round as possible), in order to decided upon a map to play on, and a date/time to play their match. - When your team is playing either Dr or BA, you can only play on a map that is suitable for a 6 v 6 encounter. But when your team is playing one of the other clans, you can choose to play on any map (that both teams agree upon). We’d definitely need to run this format on a match per fortnight basis (as opposed to playing a match every week). Running this format on a match per week basis may cause complications, being that it would only give teams a week to sort out map choice, and a date/time for the match. The major issue this format may cause, is when it comes time for the two teams to agree on a map to play on, and the potential arguments/disputes this could cause (especially towards the end of the season where a win could make a considerable difference come the finals). A team may not want to play on a certain map (against a certain opponent), because they feel that it would give them too much of an advantage (ie it would play to much to their strengths). Then on the flip side, a team may accuse their opponents of attempting to gain an advantage, because they are rejecting every map that they have suggested.. etc etc.. In other words, this sort of format has the potential to create **** fights that are best avoided. The worst thing that could happen is that the RR schedule is held up because two teams can’t agree on a map to play on, resulting in players becoming jaded and uninterested in playing further. Then again, being the friendly, relaxed nature of the competition these days, we should be able to overcome such issues. Format 3 Basically the same format as the current 1942 RR7 format. For those that are not aware of how the current 1942 RR format works; instead of playing the one map for 4 rounds, you play a map of your teams choice for 2 rounds, and a map of your opponents choice for the other 2 rounds. The two maps played in every match are chosen accordingly; - the RR organiser creates a random draw/schedule for the season, which is then sent out to your team (showing you who your team is playing for every round of the season). - Your team picks(in private) the map that you want to play for each match/round of the season, which you then submit to the organiser. The organiser then posts the completed draw/schedule (with every teams map choices for every round). - The season starts. - Then all your team has to do is get in contact with your opponent (preferably as early in the scheduled round as possible), in order to arrange a date/time to play your match. Check out the 1942 RR7 draw/schedule(in the first post of that thread) for an example. The major advantage of this format is that it allows every team to choose the map that they want to play (for every round of the season), instead of leaving map choice up to random selection (for the entire season). The other major advantages of this format are that: - it allows us to choose, and set the maps that are going to be played for every round of the season, before the season starts AND - it allows us to set the minimum number of players required for a match (ie 6 v 6 or 10 v 10), according to who your team is playing that round,, allowing for a greater variety of maps to be played throughout the season (instead of just 6 v 6 suitable maps). ps. fee free to move this thread to your DC section. Cheers -=The Rock=-[GameOp] |

Firstly, the bad news - unfortunately, Dr and BA have decided to pull out due to lack of numbers. I was looking forward to seeing these guys in action
but they will make fantastic $luts (which im sure will get around)! Secondly, the results: a. Three clans voted for Format 3, two clans voted for Format 2. b. Three clans voted for fortnightly matches, two clans did not submit their preference. So Format 3, running fortnightly matches it is! As discussed in the Format 3 outline, i will now create a draw/schedule, and email your teams draw run to your clans representative(s), where your clan will be required to choose a map for every round of the season. Once all the teams have submitted their map choices, i will post the draw/schedule (with everyone’s map choices for every round of the season). I’ve created this thread so that i know where to send your clans draw run, but also so that we have a list of clan reps we can all reference to, in case there’s an urgent need to communicate/get in contact with a clan rep. So it would be preferable if every clan listed more than one rep, so as to make it easier to get in contact with your clan. Let's get crackin crackers!! |

and finally, we're good to go! Here is this seasons draw & schedule!
The first match is to be played by the 26th of this month, giving us plenty of time to organise and play ya first match. But being that the first round of the season ends on the 26th of this month, means that the final round of the season (round 5) ends on the 21st of December. Is that too close to Christmas for yas? Otherwise we can set up the first round to end on the 19th of this month, so that round 5 ends on the 14th of December. But this would only give us a little over a week to organise and play the first match. What would you guys prefer? Please post in here with regards to the above. |
