Attn: Commander Sully Re: 2142
Hihi.
Was playing earlier, and had Sully make a comment about the 2 drones above my head.. (The Otus spotter sl drone), and implied that I was exploiting.
This occurs when the infamous "kit-bug" occurs. In case you are not familiar with this, allow a brief aside:
When a player dies and is revived, there are two possibilities.
The player is revived normally - using their kit, which appears on the ground beside their body.. or..
The player is revived BEFORE their kit has appeared on the ground beside them (eg: very quickly, usually within a couple of seconds of their death). The kit usually only appears when the body has become completely stationary - which may take some time if there is a slope etc - but I digress. If the player is indeed revived this quickly, they receive the kit they presently have selected in their inventories - most commonly, this results in a "fresh kit", however, it can be exploited (and was once a subject of much contention) to get a totally different kit - eg engineer to assault, etc. However, once again, I have digressed.
NB: This is also why you sometimes get a kit different to the one you had when you died - if there was another person's kit on the ground nearby, for example.
If the "kit-bug" occurs, the kit that the player died with then appears on the ground. It then behaves like any other kit on the ground.. if it was an engineer kit with motion mines deployed, they will persist until the kit disappears.. Similarly with recon kits and apms.. And most notably - an sl kit with a deployed drone. In this case, the drone continues to follow the person who deployed it, until destroyed by the enemy or the kit it belongs to expires.
Hence, if someone is revived quickly (as I often am when playing with fellow ag members) and they have a deployed sl drone at the time of their death.. When they then deploy their drone again (once again, as I often do when given the oppurtunity - I like to have my dron topped up at maximum health), they will have 2 drones following them.
So.. Despite some ridicule of this being "commonly occuring" ingame, it is actually quite easily explainable given the game mechanics.
Hopefully this explains the 2 drone situation - it occurs quite unintentionally - and with the spotter drone at least, offers no noticable benefit that I can think of.
Thanks.
