Great thread. Spec, I seem to recall you saying similar things to OldnBold on the ETQW demo - ie, a Demo was supposed to demonstrate the full range of a game by putting it's absolute best foot forward. I take your point though and agree in the main.

Personally, with all the new game releases lately, I've found it hard to focus on any one game long enough (kid in lollie shop syndrome ).

I'll be watching this thread with interest to see how others find it and in the mean time extract the digit and get into the demo a little more that I have lately.

Good point Scoob... and if this is the very best that Crysis has to offer, then we are in for one hell of an awesome game! In my view, as a player, it is the perfect demo.

I did say in response to Old'n, that it may not be perfect... nothing is. On my PC, sure, maybe it could have run nicer, but then, maybe I could have had a better PC. Maybe the baddies could have died easier, but maybe I should shoot better and play the Crysis way, rather than the Spectronious way.

Essentially, I don't want to force my opinion onto anyone else, and as much as I enjoy hearing what others may have to say, I think often people miss the point. It's an EA game. It's going to be screwed up. It's a VERY popular release, so it's always going to disappoint some. You can please some of the people some of the time..... I'm sure we all know how that goes.

Bottom line... is it fun to play?

Good points as always mate and I agree with the thrust of it.

A good example is IL-2. Is it the 'lastest and greatest' in eye candy? Nope. Is it easy to get into? Sort of.... Is it fun? Definately and that's all that counts isn't it.

Nicely put mate.

I have to admit I don't have any problems and my PC isn't as big a monster as Oldn's. I really enjoyed the demo and can't wait for the full game.

The one thing that did bug me about the AI is when you're sneaking up on the camp by the docks, you can silently drop someone with a dart and it still alerts the others to send off a flare. You can also shoot the guy with the flare and he'll forget he was going to fire it for a bit.

One of my favourite moments in the demo was when I had drawn everyone's attention and I was hiding in a trailer, the enemy walked in and I cloaked and instead of wandering away like nothing had happened, the guy took a few steps back and then opened fire all over the trailer!

I've not read all the hype about the game although I have watched a few of the movies they've been putting out over the last twelve months. I enjoyed Far Cry which I thought was a quantum leap at the time and was expecting the same again with Crysis.

I wasn't disappointed with the demo, overall, however...

My System:
Vista home Premium 64bit
Quad core (Q6600)
8800GTS 320Mb
4Gb ram (4-4-4-12)
8GB pagespace
Sata drives
XtremeMusic sound card.
Latest Video drivers (163.69)
Twin 19" CRTs normally at 1280x1024 85Hz each

I ran the game at medium everything and 1280x1024 first off.
Used r_displayinfo 1 to show me it was using DX10 and FPS between 25-35.
I also had task manager open on the other screen which showed about 2.5Gb memory being used and all four cores working about 1/3 each with the fourth up around the 2/3rds mark
To me the game ran smoothly and the cut scenes were great.
I had turned off Aqua and used windows classic theme instead.

Unfortunately as soon as I upped the Video setting above medium the thing went down to 10-20fps.

I didn't see any visible banding during the demo, but at highest setting the thing shat itself with artefacts. When back to desktop the artefacts continued and I had to restart the PC to clear the problem.

The silencer sounded fine.

The bots died when I managed to hit them enough. In some instances after shooting a bot and waiting a bit he seemed to bleed to death. IE Shoot a few times, wait, he shoots back for a bit then collapses.
Overall the AI seems pretty good but there were a few times they were facing the wrong direction. Best bot actions I've seen for a while. Good ragdoll too.
Despite the temptation there is only one gunshot chook on the island. The rest were allowed to go about their clucky ways.

The game auto-saved at each checkpoint for me and I was able to use the F keys to save and re-load without a hitch.

Water looks and acts great.
Loved the rising sun,
Hated the night-vision; didn't seem to work all that well.
I took a boat around the island after disabling the radio jammer.. didn't seem to disrupt the checkpoints (perhaps I was supposed to do that rather than take the jeep?)
I thought the cut scenes worked really well with the game play. The voice overs were an improvement on other games (such as STALKER) and the facial expressions a tad better then HL2.
The actions of picking up guns, throwing things, occasional knees popping into view were added rice for me.
The jeep and boat were a little dumbed down for my liking. Would like to see a door open, get in, use key to start, change gears etc. It's HUD mini-gun on the roof is too easy to use while driving. Should have to change positions to use it, but I suppose it is 2021.
I love the trees falling over and other destructive items (with both guns and vehicles)

I'll buy the game but I'd like to sort out the graphics issue... my system should eat this game.

EDIT in the fight against spam
Oh, and I can't seem to get Fraps (v2.5) to work with Crysis either... no on-screen FPS and no movie recording.

More things I've noticed.....

1.Crank up the antialiasing as much as possible to see (cylon voice) MAXIMUM LUSHNESS (/cylon voice). I run at 8x AA with no probs

2. AI seem to wear body armour: headshots and shooting them in the back drops them much faster than frontal body shots. I also recommend single shot mode to help with headshots.

3. Ballistics. At long range, the SCAR bullets have no punch and can't do shit. Use the AK on single shot for long range slaying.

4. Jeep 50 cal is superb for slaying flocks of seagulls (including the 80's techno band of the same name) The spray of the 50 cal also becomes worse as the vehicle cops more damage. Most people will already know that vehicle handling declines the more you trash it. Also, if you punch the fuel can on the back of the jeep on (cylon voice) MAXIMUM STRENGTH (/cylon voice) it will detonate, sending everyone (including you) to paradise

5. Occasionally a jet flies at mega speed overhead. Worship and god-like praise to anyone who can shoot it down

Sys spectronius:

E6600 core2
ASUS P5K SE mobo
8800 GTX
XFi fatality
2GB Corsair dominator RAM 5-5-5-15 at 1066 MHz
XP home

If the P5K mobo is any indication, I really recommend the new P35 chipset for Intel cpus. Keeping all other hardware the same, a very, very noticable improvement over my last mobo that used the P965 chipset. My mobo only cost $150 and totally roxxors compared to all previous ones, no matter how expensive.
Also, for some reason RAM frequency seems to be generally more important than timings on Intels, whereas timings seem to be more important then frequency for AMDs(my experience anyway)
