+2 to anything Cooney says!

Many, if not most "great" new games require next gen gear to run them at max. Look at Oblivion. When it was released (ages ago now) you couldn't get a rig to run it at max for less than five grand. Well... maybe, but not the average older gamer anyway. But that's what gives games longevity... well, that and good gameplay! And good support... and good netcode... and and and... But it's all part of it.

As for the game looking good set to low... I think it's amazing!! I was, and still am blown away by it's looks... and that's just on Medium! Amazing technology. As I've said elsewhere, I've cranked it right up, and my jaw dropped... unplayable, but spectacular. Simply the best. My next rig (not for another year) will give it a thorough thrashing maxed out. But for now, I'm very happy with it as it is.

My understanding of the graphics settings is that they designed them such that no top of the line PC should be able to run the max settings. They are wanting to ensure that the graphics can be increased even after a year or so as better hardware becomes available.

Personally, I think this is a stupid idea bound to get everyone off side, since the only person happy about that wont appear until a year after the game comes out.

It also depends on what people think is Max settings to. There are a number of videos out that have Crysis Demo running in DX 10 Max everything @ 30-40+ FPS. However, most of them are running 1024 or 1280 Res max.

Personally, I hate having to scale down to 1680 res from 1920, and even then my shaders have to be set to low. However, it still looks and play great, and I find myself playing the demo over and over (ok and editing in extra weapons / items and flying around blowing up the map with a helicopter).

There is also the new GTS just around the corner too, and given that it is expected to be faster than the current GTX, along with 1GB of memory, the higher resolutions could start to become playable before the end of the year.

And then there will be the GTX replacement series, would be great to think that they would have the grunt to run Crysis @ max settings on a 30" with its default res, that would really be something to behold.

So while it may be for future tech, I don’t think that it’s too far off at all. Also, the full version is expected support multi-core CPU’s as well, something that is not really working with the Demo.

The single worst thing I feel thou, will be seperate servers for DX 9 and DX 10. Again, time will see how that unfolds thou.

Same.. .I found today I was having fun, setting it to Delta difficulty and jsut using the dart mode of the main rifle. Wot a hoot!

Hide, cloak, dash, grab ,throw one guy at another and then head dart the third!

I was deliberately setting off grenades to get more guys turning up! Then I go around seeing how far I can throw various things on "strength" mode.

Bit disappointed I couldn't drag enemies into the water with me and watch them drown. . Buggers die as before they go under.

There's also rumours of additional engine features that are "switched off" and can be enabled via a patch, so once the next-gen kit comes out, they release a patch, eye candy and associated goodness increases.

They're a smart bunch over there at Crytek.

are you kidding me? the game bogs down the highest end systems as it is... and they want to put more in there?

The idea of making the game so it stresses system s a year for now is fine, as long as it scales down well. And tbh putting the game on low settings makes it look like dogs balls, worse than FarCry, and no amount of shooting down palm trees or throwing chickens can make me ignore this.

Look at FarCry now, a few years on with new hardware and you can play it on max res max settings, great... but who actually plays FarCry anymore? There's new better games out now, and FarCry has been relegated to a "classic"

Will the same thing happen to Crysis? They said the same thing about FarCry when it was released "years ahead of its time, pushing the boundaries of current technology..." etc

I dunno what you're experiencing, but I'm playing on med everything @ 1680x1050, no AA on a 7900gt & 3800x2 and I'm quite happy with how it looks, (and the framerate in all but the extremely heavily forested areas).

All comes down to what you're expecting I suppose, I was never under the impression that I'd be getting the whole shebang with my current kit, but I didn't even expect it to look as good as it does.

And yes, I still play FarCry every so often and IMO, Crysis definately looks a generation better than FarCry does on full everything, even without AA. I also remember the perpetual bugs and patches that turned playing FarCry into a game of frustration.

Oh, the reason the engine features are switched off is, apparently, because the current hardware either doesn't support it, or the features are too intensive atm, can't remember exactly what the deal was.

Wait for the launch and the first set of "make performance not ass" patches.
