oooh double tap on the pistol! i'll try that. And yeah couldnt agree more on the flares. sometimes the AI is great, other times it's like they have xray vision (the sniper on the far side of the river is a good example, no matter where you go or if you are stealthed he still shoots you.

I have to say though, I played for a good many hours last night and I really love this game now! Thanks for the tips Tald and Robert. I was playing "run-n-gun" previously which is why I wasnt enjoying it, once I switched to a stealth mindset the game got a sheet load more fun.

For one thing I used to engage every group of enemy I came across, and there would regularly be crowds of guys around me. once I started actually picking my fights and using tactics it was a whole new experience. The Dart is awesome for dropping a distant enemy without alerting others. Once I get close to him I just punch him to death while unconscious.

The graphics at night-time are just breathtaking! Especially that mangrove swamp you trek through before extraction, the ambient sounds, frogs jumping, even bugs swimming in the water. Once I finish the game I'm going to have to go through with godmode on and just take in the sights.

Once gripe I had was the chopper that tracks you after you rescue the scientist at the excavation site. That freakin chopper must have killed me 30 times! I refused to lower the difficulty though. I kept trying to take it out with mounted machine guns, and it kept killing me. Bizarre thing happened: it fired its two rockets at the machine gun nest I was in, the debris from the building flew out in all directions, and the roof went sailing straight into the canopy of the chopper. BOOM! The nub killed himself! rofl I just sat there dumbfounded then mashed my quicksave key.

love it!!

I haven't had much time to play yet, so have only progressed a little in single player. I like what I've seen, but haven't been challenged yet. I'm sure it's coming up though! Great write up there vine!

Same mate It's not enough that I'm in the same house with SWMBO...she expects me to take time out from fragging to actually have conversations and stuff . I'm already suffering from FPS overload with BF2, TF2 & COD4. I'm going to delay purchasing Crysis til after Xmas - if at all. It's true, you can have too much of a good thing

*sigh*

Here's how it's gone for me so far:
  1. Bioshock Demo - Fantastic! Must get!
  2. COD4 Demo - Fantastic! Must get!
  3. Crysis Demo - Fantastic! Must get!
  4. Gifted with HL2 - Fantastic! Must play!
  5. Got IL-2 Sturmovik : 1946 - Fantastic! Must play!
  6. New BF2142 patch finally - Fantastic! Must play!
Then along comes reality and a mere 24hrs in the day (damn who ever invented time with only 24hrs!). Oh, and then of course it's family time (which I actually love), and somewhere in there is that time I spend working...

It's a bloody struggle as you say with all these great games out....

*sigh*

I just bought a new pc, mainly for Crysis and Hellgate:London, but thats another story. Anyway - I played the Crysis demo and I loved it, the last time I got this into a single player FPS was the original Half-Life. I remember when I was playing thru Half-Life all those years ago and it made me look at the real world differently; like air ducts, a crow bar, etc. Well, Crysis has me doing the same thing - I look at the trees in my back yard and I'm like "damn, that looks like Crysis".

I am totally immersed and totally loving it.

Also, I'm actually playing the game under DX9 in Vista, sad but true - it runs so much better and it looks just as good.

looks almost as good, the water and lighting are better under dx10 though, particularly the refraction and volumetric effects. not sure if it's worth the 20fps drop though. LOVE THIS GAME!
