"RE: Limited Release Update: 1.7.0 You do not need the beta patch to join (but it is recommended). 1.7.0 will turn into a rolling update slowly to test load."

I guess my concern is about patching steam files myself (rather than steam doing it). I'll read more about the changes later.

I'm using steam and struggled a bit with the patch to 1.6.01. Couldn't make sense of the 6 updater fast enough so I decided to try it manually. In the end, this is how I ended up doing it, with no problems.

Exit steam, close ArmA II.

open windows explorer to C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\arma 2 operation arrowhead\@DayZ\addons

compare the version numbers of the rar files offered from http://www.armafiles.info/dayz/ (choose a mirror) for update against any previous updates you've applied, especially dayz_vx.x.x.rar, dayz_code_vx.x.x.rar dayz_weapons_vx.x.x.rar, dayz_equip.rar_vx.x.x and dayz_vehicles_vx.x.x.rar

download any updated files. (if you're not sure, get them all, see next 3 steps)

move the downloaded patch files, unextracted, into the @dayz folder.

extract the new files using extract here, overwriting the old files.

delete any old versions of the rar files you've updated (good houskeeping, you'll always know what version you're patched up to, rar files have version numbers, .pbo files don't.)

Restart steam and launch Arma II CO.

As I said, I patched my Steam version up to 1.6.0.1 days ago this way and have had no problems. Personally, I'm going to skip any patches not offered at www.armafiles.info/dayz. this one isn't up there yet, so I'll hold off.

Six updater seems worth a second look. Once installed and setup with the Dayz profile it is a breeze

I've been stung a few times by Steam doing an update that I didn't particularly want, so when I have the option, I prefer to do it myself. Worrom's update tool is awesome. All I do is run it, do the update, and then click 'play'. Easy as.

By "limited release" he means only those (test) servers were updated to 1.7 (obviously to test the waters)

And by "rolling update" he means to gradually roll out the patch to all the servers, he uses this roll-out method (with all updates) because if all the servers were to stop, update and then all try to connect to the master server and have eleventy eight million players all trying to connect at the same time the master server would poo it's pants.

BTW I see the limited release was a success and the rolling update has begun.

Just patched up to 1.7 and joined a server, took all of 10 seconds to get in game. WOOT!

Worrom updater is so much easier. I seriously don;t understand using anything else if you exclusively use it for dayz. Six updated needs to be installed and is a resource hungry program, worrom is just a exe that is run, updates and then closes.

Six updater does all the mods for ARMA as where worrom doesn't, as I do not play anything else than dayz I only use worrom.

Hard core all the way for me :P

But worom sounds like a good idea.

I guess all the years of playing Mods I am used to putting mods in different directories under the game played whatever it maybe.
