And content isn't served directly from the HDDs. Can you imagine 100 people all trying to access the same drive for content at once and the associated decrease in speed? How about if that was 2000 people? The limit on the 32-bit server was one of RAM usage and not being able to use more than 2GB per application, or something like that. A Valve guy explained it to me once but it was a little outside of my knowledge ...

I'm using Google Chrome so I just had to highlight it and it a wikipedia definition popped up in a little text box.

It said:

exabytes: An exabyte (derived from the SI prefix exa-) is a unit of information or computer storage equal to one quintillion bytes (short scale). It is commonly abbreviated EB. ...
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Exabytes

After which I had to open a new tab to Google quintillion.

I hate it when Wikipedia makes me feel less smart.

Talking about it because i am wondering how much Disk Space Gamearena has put aside for content servers and whether they could or are hosting the whole catalog on Steam.

GameArena runs 2 servers. I use a program called Steamwatch that limits my DL's only to the GA servers but these days it's a challenge. Most new content are not on the GA servers. On the plus side I was paying $109.95 a month for a 50gig limit and telstra just changed their prices 200gig is only $99.95 and 50 dropped to $49.95. So if your worried about your limit just up it.
