Any help on Alien Swarm error?

Hey all,

I downloaded and wanted to try the new Valve free game. Everytime I try to play the game in any mode, I get an error, something to the effect: Valve is unable to validate the session.

Anyone know what I can do about this, or understand it?

Exit Steam.
Rename ..\Steam\clientregistry.blob -> clientregistry.old
Restart Steam.

If that doesn't work, try:
Right click Alien Swarm in your game list
Properties
Local Files
Verify integrity of game cache...
