Awesome! How long would you say it took you to get this far, Judge?

Well, it takes 3 years to travel to Jool ...

I've been playing the Steam version for 220 hours now (oops) but I played pre-steam for a while.

Couple more shots of the Jool Mission

Jebidiah making some inspections

And here's the station. It's mostly crew housing and scaffold left. The Jumbos are all but empty (Only one has a little under half left). I use those and the RCS tanks to re-fuel the landers. I made a slight engineering boo-boo as there is scaffold BEHIND tohe landers which means I have to dock either over the TOP of that scaffold - or come in sideways ... both are 'difficult'. To top it off - I used "Jnr" clamps ... so they're only half the size of regular clamps.

Success! Minmus Arrival!

So I followed Scott Manley's tutorial on a Minmus landing and while I used a 3 Kerbal crew, where his crew was solely Bill Kerman, I made it!

Leaving Kermin. A daunting sight for a noob like me.
As you can see in the above image, I have only 1/3 tank left. Maybe enough for a return leg, we'll see...

One last EVA on the trip in.

Achieved a stable orbit of Minmus at 38km, prepping for gentle de-orbit.
Turns out I missed that small depression on my decent path. Have to account for planet rotation when setting up for landing.

Gently guiding Kerbal X down the retrograde vector, probably burning too much fuel. I ballooned a bit, over cooking the thrust.

Almost there! Our shadow is very close now.

Touchdown on another world!! A mile stone for me. God, I love this game!

EVA and obligatory group photo. Bill, Jeb and Bob Kerman. Heroes of the Kerbal Space program!

Unfortunately there wasn't enough fuel for return leg. I'll have to plan better next mission.

Grats!

You can actually get your Kerbals in orbit by just using their RCS packs on Minmus

Now to work out your Phase Angles for EVE!!!

Oh, here they are

1000 km Kerbin Orbit (hint, have a slightly elliptical orbit to keep control over the Maneuver node).

EVE Phase Angle: -54.13 degrees

Ejection Angle: 143.44 degrees (Note - this is a RETRO-PLANET burn)

Ejection Burn (DeltaV): 740m/s

A quick video on how to get to EVE using MechJeb.

Your hardest part of the whole affair is getting a ship out, into Kerbin Orbit. You do that, and you're half way there.

[Edit] was rather tired and realised that I still had warp on when landing. That could be why the Deep Space Cthulhu ate my ship

Nice one Judge! Pity about the landing, but who am I to critique.
Thx for showing how you use Smartass. I haven't used it beyond setting my retrograde/prograde paths on a stable orbit.
I'm only just getting a handle of Hohhman transfers, & tend to do everything manually. I suppose that's how we learn .

Hey Guys,

Been playing it for a few too many hours for the time i've had it.....

I for the life of me cannot get the docking right, not even close. Judge, whats your secret?

Also, what mods are you using? I have mechjeb and a few parts ones and I have just started using the HOME stuff, but I'm trying to lift too much at once and having trouble getting enough fuel to get to a good orbit let alone mun.

Just love this game, its got that building element and the "how far can i take this" thing!

NAM

You need to dock to go off to other planets or move large items. There's a lot of 'under-average' tutorials out there but I'll try to whip one up for you (or maybe find a good one).

Suffice to say, docking is almost ALWAYS stressful and takes a LOT of patients (especially with large payloads).

Mods I use are;

MechJeb
HOME 3
Lazor docking camera
a few parts (Kerbal-X and a few others)
Quantum struts

One thing I have found with the station is to have a long docking arm but make sure the station is not rotating or spinning (KILLROT and facing a normal ot anti-normal direction helps). Here's my docking arm or KSS-2 (KSS-1 met an untimely end ... killing all on board )
