Default Custom Downloader

i'm in the process of organizing a custom map downloader to get all the maps you ned for CSS.

What it will do is look at your css maps folder and only dl the one that you require

keep watching for further updates, hopefully won't be to long

Doesn't the game do that automatically anyway?

So this would be a separate program that would basically sync my maps folder with that of the game server? Would the files then be downloaded from the download server? If so, will the program decompress the maps from bz2 format?

For a first time user, this could potentially be a huge download consisting of maps that are infrequently played. Where is the incentive over simply having the server download maps as needed? It typically never takes more than a couple of minutes to get a map anyway ...

You should't be having speed issues, the fast download server is just a web server. If the one you have isn't working, just use another one, web servers are a dime a dozen. If you build this app you still have the issue of where you download these maps from. If the web server you have is currently slow, it's still going to be slow when you run this app.

Honestly, it seems better to invest time in fixing or finding a good fast-download server rather than building an app that duplicates functionality that the game already provides.

Winscp would do this. But just having the web server and sv_downloadurl configured correctly and a bit of preparation when you add new maps that are compressed with bzip on the webserver is all you need.

You would hardly need the overhead of winscp - its not like the maps need the encryption. How bout plain ole ftp?
