Considering it's co-operative rather than competitive multiplayer, it's really of little consequence if save games are modded.

While not having used the editor Mighty Brush linked, I have duplicated a save (and hex edited the internal save number to make it work) so that I can move ahead at my own pace with a character I'm enjoying while still maintaining a copy of the character that levels and quests alongside a semi-regular group.

PS - the game just patched and fixed a number of issues, including the lost skill point one.

@Thermal, would be great if they released a toolset someday for us to map/mod our own game. One can hope right?
