I quite enjoyed the movie, but felt it was totally predictable. What was the most fun I think was the actual world they were in and finding out more about it rather than what the actual story really was (which I guess it was, in part).

XXXX Spoilers - Skip this post if you haven't seen the movie XXXX

Highlight (click+drag) below to read:

The antagonists were only there to force the discovery story to go to places we wouldn't have gone to otherwise, and that development (bad guys doing bad things) was very predictable, but, I don't know, is that story or just bad characters?

If the evil characters weren't so one dimensional and the motives were more complicated (if the minerals were needed or the human race would die out, or somehting, rather than just greed) then the hero would be much more conflicted about which side to fight for. The tension between pushing for a diplomatic solution in the face of all our war wasn't fully realized. There was no real moral conflict either, not for the hero anyhow.

Stacking geoncide up against the health of one soldiers legs was way too one sided given that the motive (hero getting legs back) was nullified by the whole "avatar" concept to begin with.

In that respect, it was doomed to fail.

I let go of any pre-conceived notions of this movie and simply watched it for what it was. And for this, I was taken in.

I picked up the Avatar game on a steam special. It's decent enough for entertainment as far as movie to game rips go. 9.3 hours into the game playing and a 3/5th complete as one of the two playable factions.

Hear, hear, well said!
