These sorts of regional ripoffs really get my goat about Steam. No doubt the really cheap deals are great, but this kind of thing to protect the local disti of the boxed product should be ruled anti-competitive.

This is not Steam's fault. If it was up to Steam I am sure they would charge the same price world wide. Valve games are always the same price world wide. I remember when COD:MW was released, it was selling for $49 on Steam for a week before Activision realised and made Steam up the price. They claimed it was a mistake...

You'll also generally find IF such regionalised priced games are available from other download services they will be similarly burdened with regional pricing. Many other services however will have the games region restricted rather than just region priced - not sure if it's that their systems can't handle regional pricing so they've got no choice but to region restrict to abide by the Publisher's requirements or some other reason.

it's all about saving money. the games on steam are (generally) cheaper, and during the sales they are a bargain.

i also use steam friends as my contact list, to see what people are playing, join games, chat etc.
