This is not Steam's fault. If it was up to Steam I am sure they would charge the same price world wide. Valve games are always the same price world wide. I remember when COD:MW was released, it was selling for $49 on Steam for a week before Activision realised and made Steam up the price. They claimed it was a mistake...

it's all about saving money. the games on steam are (generally) cheaper, and during the sales they are a bargain.

i also use steam friends as my contact list, to see what people are playing, join games, chat etc.
