Default Mount and Blade

I wanted to chime in on the Mount and Blade special this weekend. This game is great! It's combat sim with empire building.

It goes for realism on it's weapons over balance. For instance if you hit a man with a sword at full gallop from horseback, the chances of that man living are quite small. Horse archers can only fire to one side, just like in the real world. Different weapons work better vs' the different armors. This is one of the best medieval combat sims I have seen.

The empire building is so-so but fun. The trading aspect is also so-so. The plus side is there is a ton of free mods The developer is a small company that is really supportive of the modding community.

Lastly the multi-player sequel is due out soon. If you have not played this game it is more than worth it's discounted price.

I've said it before and I'll say it again. M&B is a really fun, light, indy game. Worth every penny of it's currently on-special price and a fair bit more besides.

I picked this up waaaaay back in the day. During development they had a deal going, the earlier you bought the game the less it cost, price would go up with each update. I paid $2 for it when the first alpha build was released, simply because it sounded like they had a brilliant idea. And they did

Probably the best $2 I've ever spent as well. Great game, and if you don't pick it up while it's on sale you're crazy. There's an expansion in the works, Mount & Blade: Warband, which adds a single player campaign, improved graphics, improved AI and the main thing everyone's been asking for: Multiplayer.

Riding round on horseback hacking people to pieces, taking hostages, raiding/defending castles, and soon we'll be able to do all that with other toggers, be nuts to pass on this opportunity if you ask me.

I agree, have been playing it for a few years (.503 I think), and its a game I just always keep getting back to. I have never had a game ever last so long. Riding around on an armoured horse, smacking people in the head with an axe just never gets old for me.

Yeah I'm in the same boat. I think iot was $6 NZ when I first got on to the game and I bought about 6 licences so I could give them away as presents.

Looks interesting, worth a go for that price for sure - only thing putting me off is the fact Justin likes it. As the last game he recommended to me fell well short of my expectations!

Grabbed this on the weekend and love it. Awesome combat on so many levels. The open sandbox style of play is great. Pretty impressive for one man and his wife.

I spend a bit of time wandering around not doing too much but I mainly put that down to me being a noob. At lvl 14 now so have joined a faction as a merc and have assisted some lords in battles. Trying to build up a decent sized army so I can start getting more involved in the wars.

Purchased, downloaded overnight. Will give ita try soon.

Was originally scared off by the letters "r p g" and the words "level up"...but what the heck, kids will probably enjoy it if I don't, and it won't break the bank if none of us do.

Learn to joust effectively! Nothing beats a lance on a fast horse. The trick is to resist your impulse to 'click' to stab with your lance, you must not click, so that the lance remains couched. One hit kill every time.
