Default Steam Client update stuffed?

I just updated the Steam client with the new update and now every time I try to launch a game Steam freezes and shows up as "Not responding" in Windows Task Manager. Anyone else having the same problem?

Check your real time virus scanners. Disable or make an exception for the Steam folder.

Hmm... I restarted the computer and now it works fine. Steam has been a bit strange for me lately though. Restarting steam never works. It just stops responding.

Your not using a Steam filter are you?

I got this soon after the steam update when trying to play Mafia 2 last night. All seems fine after a reboot.

I am using Frey's Steam filter to only access content servers on Internode's white list.

You can download from any aussie content server on Internode and it won't affect your monthly quota.

That is why I am using the content servers on Internode's whitelist.

Yes......but what happens is,if the Internode servers are busy Steam will look for the next server available that has the files you want,so you will end up downloading from a metered ISP (server).

I run Steam Watch to force the download through Internode, but I have to disable it when the Internode servers are too busy to download so it gets it elsewhere....and it definitely comes off your download quota, even though I have Internode SA selected as my provider in Steam

"Any" content server in australia, be it GameArena, iiNet etc is unmetered for Internode. You'll only get metered content from overseas servers.
