Massive Updates ...

I am kinda getting slightly annoyed and that is a pretty hard situation for me to even remotely get in ...



My settings tell this game NOT to update ... have I done something wrong or not completed the request properly?

In addition to this there was a 6.8gig update for Star Wars: Force Unleashed 2 ... Like what the hell did they give us part 3 for free as an update?

I have sent a ticket to Steam about this, and don't get me wrong I like Steam and the way I can keep everything organized, but when I (the user that makes them rich) tells a program to NOT update as I don't play it anymore (and yes still want it installed) and it goes and drops between them 10gig of my quota it gets kind of annoying.

I mean yeah I can support throwing 10gig away I have a comfortable limit that I never reach, but that shouldn't matter.

At a guess, the do not update option may not be effective for updates to the underlying engine which is shared across a range of Valve games. Of course if this is the only game you have with this engine (or you have all of them disabled for updating) then it would seem reasonable to expect them not to do the engine updates. But of course reasonable and what happens in practice don't always coincide.

As to the size of your Force Unleashed update, this process is completed by checking your local files against the remote ones and downloading any that are different. So updates for games where the file system comprises mostly large files are likely to require large "updates".

It might not be an option for you, but have you investigated changing to an ISP that gives Steam content as unmetered?
