Default Windows Compatibility

I had to reinstall Steam and now when I try to run it comes up with "running steam in windows compatability mode is not recommended". So I make sure windows compaitibility is turned off in propoerties. No change.

Any suggestions?

Try this:
Fix: Steam thinks its running in compatibility mode

I have an entry under HKCU with a data value of "ELEVATECREATEPROCESS" and it works fine.

Ty Jigoku!

This did help... eventually.

I deleted in regedit, error continued. Went back to edugeek which said keep trying. So I tried again and Steam started but crashed. Started again and I have left Steam running untouched. Seems ok so far but alittle slow maybe....

So I'll leave it going and see what happens.

I'm not sure what this means,

Ok, there is also a suggestion to do this:

Quote:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE -> Software
You should now see a folder named "Valve". Delete it, the hole folder (left click folder "Valve" right click and delete, confirm deletion)
Do you think this is recomended?

I just mentioned it as even though it is recommending you delete the key, I do indeed have an entry there. It is possible it will be recreated when you restart Steam. The entry I have is:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\AppCompatFlags\Layers\G:\Steam\s team.exe with string value ELEVATECREATEPROCESS

As to deleting the Valve keys, if you are going to start doing that, reinstall Steam; just do it properly
