SHOGUN 2 TOTAL WAR..CANT INSTALL...WTF??????

Heya gang.
After saving my pennies for months, i finally bought Shogun2 TW at EB Games.
When I try to install it, I get a message saying "PLEASE FIRST ACTIVATE THE ORIGINAL GAME."

It seems that Steam is recognising it as an expansion pack, and not a stand alone game.
Does anyone please know of any fixes?..My kids are spewing..

I used some google foo, people who had this error for Napoleon total war, got it because they actually got two keys with the game and were using the wrong one...

EDIT: Nevermind! I made a mistake, i took the "step2 key", which i thought was the actual game key, im just used to the keys being down there, and i didnt see the other one...

Make sure your using the correct cd-key (the one at the very top of your game manual).

Ya, I feel like a complete dick!!!!
I just noticed that it is a limited edition and I was trying to install using the unlockable code, NOT the game code.....

I think I'll go and hide now.......

Tried that Jig, thanks mate.
For some reason I can't find the path to the Steam.exe file.......
I've tried deleting the local content, and am trying now a reinstall.
I've also checked to make sure that STEAM doesn't keep it up to date.

I installed Shogun 2 digitally, had zero problems with download speed. Turning off updates might be what's causing your problem?

Yes mate I did that and it worked, the update of almost 1 gig was the problem...
Got halfway through the game tutorial and got the message 'Blah Blah has encountered a problem and needs to close blah blah blah..."

Question:-
Why are STEAM updates installed @ 3-6 KBS???????..Is that the fastest speed STEAM have got?
