Default Aussies: Tired of paying too much?

Hey Aussie TOGs, are you tired of paying too much for steam games compared to everybody else in the world? Might want to send the ACCC a complaint. The more noise we make, the more pressure they're likely to apply to get fairer pricing.

Steamprices (checkout how bad we're being ripped off under "top rip offs")...

PS, thanks Kotaku!

Good idea. Complaint filed.

Hope other people join in and not end up like the classification overhaul where only 80 people filed a view a week before it was due to close. A lot of people like to make a noise but rarely get off their butts to do anything about it.

There enough people in TOG and friends of to make them stand up and investigate it at least if we all jump onto this. The prices are not going to change by their own accord so we have to do something about it.

*steps off the soapbox*

Do the ACCC have any jurisdiction over products sold in US dollars on the internet?

As a matter of fact they do! It is where 'you' purchase something that enables the regulators to look at it. So all internet purchases are treated as if you were buying in your neighborhood.

that classification overhaul thing was one of the longest and most complicated forms i have ever seen, i'm not the least bit surprised only 80 people managed to get through it.

I use the Steam online game delivery system (Welcome to Steam) to buy most of my games. What I find most annoying is that there are quite big differences in price between the USA (and UK) prices and what the Australian price is. A website was created to show these differences more simply at Top Rip-offs /au SteamPrices.com . This seems to be more prevalent with the new release games. An example is 'The Witcher 2' (one of the games I am interested in at the moment) costs US$74.99 for Australians, US$49.99 for USA and 34.99 pounds in the UK. Considering that the content is identical and is downloaded I fail to see why we pay more in Australia.

Meh, much as I'd like to complain, I've just started voting with my $s, I don't buy the supposed "AAA" titles anymore, not until they hit the bargain bin at least. Giving my money to the indies who's prices don't vary by country.

Yeah I've been doing that too.
