Hey TOGs, I've had this idea for a game in mind for a while now. Even planned it out a little, then 11Bit Studios had to go and ruin my daydream by actually releasing a game just like it. What's worse, they had the nerve to do a pretty damn good job of it too!
In a nutshell, you could call the genre Tower Assault. Your objective is to lead a squad of allied units through a maze of paths to reach objectives. Along the way there are various enemy tower units trying to stop you. You can Kill them!
You have some control over the paths you wish to take, and a commander with special abilities to help you get through tricky spots. You can upgrade and purchase more units which warp to your location. Organise their order and strategically sorting them as you wish to help achieve objectives.
Now to be honest, I've only played the Demo. that was enough though, I've grabbed the full copy and am downloading it now. I've had my eye on this for a week now and noticed a friend had picked it up. He thought it was great, I asked if it was as good production value as say Defense Grid: The Awakening (one of my favorite tower defense games) and he said "Yes!", From what I've seen of the demo I'm inclined to agree with him.
So why not give the demo a try? Both the Demo and Full game are a very small install, and the Steam server speeds seem back to normal right now.
Not a bad little game - just ignore the plot holes. You do need to bump up the difficulty though if you want a challenge.
Worth a look at the demo, although note that there's a lot more variety in the towers you face in the full game, and the power-ups available to you.
