This might not be the advice you want.

I would suggest getting a physical copy from OzGamesShop, Amazon, etc and endure the extra few days of waiting. Starting on the 8th through to around 15/16th, Steam is going to be congested to levels never before seen in it's history.

CoD:MW3, release 8th, 3.5 million pre-orders and probably another 3 million first day sales.
ES5:Skyrim, release 11th, 1.5 million pre-orders and probably 1 million first day sales.

All wanting to download or activate and both likely coming with a 500mb+ patch for retail copies.

While you have a valid point about possible Steam content server congestion, Skyrim is currently not available from Ozgameshop - the Pre-order with cloth map reports as "Unavailable - waiting for price information", while the game on its own is now marked as "Out of Stock" (although was marked as per the pre-order one up until the weekend).

Thanks man ... I can really see where your coming from, for me though boxes and books are in the past. I love the structure of Steam and having all my content in one place.

Plus I will just bust out BF3 till my Skyrim and MW dl.

Also this way if I self combust in front of the PC and cause a huge explosion that rips my house apart, when the doctors put me back together all my games will be online.

Ignore everything I posted. Seems Steam have bought extra bandwidth to handle the load.

I bought a filler game (Might & Magic Clash of Heroes) to occupy myself until Skyrim arrives. It's downloading at a constant 1.2 MB/S which is close to my max download rate.
