[Steam] Winter Sales/draws

Just got updates to 13 games today, my guess is it's in time for a winter achievements giveaway thing like the summer one they had, particularly as many of the games updated were part of that.

Current wisdom is that the Steam sale will start on the 20th (so probably the 21st for us in Aus/NZ)

Well the Steam Holiday Sale is now on but I can't access the Steam website so they must either be busy updating it or they are being hammered by millions of people trying to get a bargain. At least there is no risk of anything being sold out when I eventually get on there.

Yeah was very flake this morning but they seemed to have got it running OK now.

Serious Sam 3 is something I might pick up but I expect it to become a daily deal and even be discounted further then it's current 25%

and a bunch of others that aren't all that interesting to me personally but those 3 for $74 is probably not a bad deal.

Undecided though, well let me rephrase that to "tempted" but in reality I have too many games to play already so I should be sensible.

There is also a prize giveaway for doing achievements in daily games, with first prize being ALL the steam games available in your region.

The daily giveaway gives you a freebie as well, I got the longest journey, dreamfall and a 50% voucher for valve games just for entering. I don't have any of the other ones to obtain achievements so that's as far as it goes but those are good adventure games to get for free.

Is it the same for everyone or is there some random element there?

I got 33% off Valve and 25% off Bethesda - I already had Longest Journey and Dreamfall - Damnit Father you get better stuff than me!

Interesting so it is random. The 50% valve voucher will come in handy if they intend to release half life 3 before March (as if) otherwise every Valve game released I own already, so that one is gonna end up staying unused.

I got two copies (maybe I already had one?) of Portal and a 33% off Valve games released before 2nd January, but only usable after 2nd January, so basically anything that I miss out on buying in the sale, which is nothing. Considering I, every man, and his dog have portal, and that they occasionally sell it for free, that is less than stellar too.

That said, free is free!
