FTB: Community Railroad

Good Morning

We are now looking at getting a community project going, a community raild road, the problem being, over ground or under ground.

Both have pro'sand con's, obviously overland has the greater probability of mobs interfering with smooth travel.

The intention will be for the rail to be kept within hte road boundary.

So Vote people, over groun or under ground, in about a week some people may start.

I think an elevated track might look very nice.

DarkDuck 28th December 2012 09:15 AM

oh fine, add a third option
Vote now
1) Overland Rail - at ground level on the road itself
2) Overland Elevated Rail,
3) Underground Rail!!!

underground.

Overground spoils the look of the city IMHO and has more potential for mob interference.

Agreed with underground. Also it's more "out of the way" in the event people want to build elevated interconnections between each others' places.

Irimar 28th December 2012 02:39 PM

Ah, well. Whatever the outcome, I'll bow to consensus.

Duck, I dropped some gold in the chest on the first floor of your workshop. I believe you need it for booster rails?

I like overland. As long as it elevated a decent height and well lighted the chance of mob interference is nearly as equal as that as underground.

Either way I don't think there should be more than a few lines. I don't think we need it under every road to every plot.

Perhaps only 2 straight lines. Like one north/south and one east/west line would cover about everything needed.

As far as electric goes to each plot there could still be a much smaller underground line for bringing electricity from the spawn reactor. Or can run a line with battboxes with an overland system to connect to a series of electric hubs that could then run underground from those points to plots.

Irimar 28th December 2012 02:57 PM

The problems with running electric out are the power loss on the line and overall usage. I'm not sure we could supply enough power to everyone, and people near the edge of town would not get much, if any.

I prefer underground. Easier to hook up stations that way, and if people build grand houses and want a station without affecting said house, those two does not interfere.

With the Myst portal city system, a railway seems rather pointless now. That portal system is much more efficient and doesn't require any changes to the actual City.
