FTB: quarry ettiquite

For those making quarries outside of the city - It would be good if any old vacant quarry sites could be at least fenced, to make them safe. Particularly if those quarries are somewhere where people are likely to want to wander about (particularly places like the myst)

There should be ample cobble available to make cobble fencing, which will stop anyone falling in. Not everyone will have rubber boots or whatnot.

On that same note... if you're going to cover them up, put a couple of layers of something like cobble - not just one. If a creeper explodes on it, and it's only one layer, it's likely to break right through.

I think my joining of the server without knowing what is going on (and still not knowing) yesterday and ending up at the bottom of many dig sites (dead) might be the reason for the OP.

Yay me :D

I guess I still have a quarry out in the desert that I haven't covered up yet, but that's mostly due to time constraints. Another quarry I've already covered with one layer of cobble and one layer of sand to hide that there has ever been a quarry there. Although I guess it'll make a nice surprise if someone tries to dig straight down in that area :p

The rest of my quarries will be a few levels underground, so this shouldn't be a problem.

Also, jetpack FTW ;)

lol no, I didn't know about that - but it was that sort of thing I was hoping to avoid by posting about it - so thank you for being the example of why it could be a problem :)

While I imagine people falling in of their own accord would be unlikely ("Ohh what's this big hole in the grooooooooooooooooooooooooond!") but if you get pushed back by a mob or something while walking around a quarry hole, that could be likely to make you fall in.

Don't count that out, I've managed to drop myself over various ledges without help from anything but my own stupidity :D

Jetpacks are very good at preventing these sort of mishaps though (as long as you don't run out of fuel in mid-air...)

I will admit my quarries I cap (or are in the process of capping the most recent) due to the size even though cobble can be easy to access I only cover with one layer; but I always surround with a fence or a mixture of fence and walls to keep people from wandering too easily on top of them while they are running. Only my newest one started last night does not yet due to the rough terrain there (until it levels it down to an more even level.)

Well I've fallen in my own a few times, but that was while I was gathering all the stuff exposed in the walls.

Though I have learned from past experience on precarious ledges that pressing my push to talk button, cancels the crouch button and you can then fall off :(

Yeah. Also, opening your inventory cancels crouch. Ask me how I know.
