I'd also advise making two books. The recipe is 1 leather, three pieces of paper. First at your shelter, open you inv and place the book into the small crafting window. This will create a link book. Go to spawn and do the same with a second book. Now take both of those books to the Link Modified at spawn (next to the alchemy table) and one by one place your linked books in and select "follow" and "intra-world". Also a good idea to change their names. Carry these bad boys everywhere to supplement the lack of /tp. Now go forth and explore!!

Also +1 to rubber boots. Even with my jetpack I still rock a pair!

Edit: Should be "Intra-age linking" and "Following". Intra-age because the Myst worlds are conceptualised as different "ages"

Edit 2: "Disarm" will cause you to drop all your items. It's more for a trap book or portal. "Retain momentum" is good for zombie farms etc - think a floor portal that they continue to fall through at the destination gate. "Create platform" is just that. Kinda useless given you'll be making the link books manually

And I should add from another thread:
-Link books in a spacious area, not a tight corner in you shelter (inc making sure you have some head room)
-Don't link while standing on a half block
-Stand still for a moment after teleporting and give the server time to load your chunk

I'll place a chest near the link modifier at spawn and donate a few stacks of books for new players when I return on Thursday.

Just a note - When you load the launcher sometimes it will tell you there is an update - you can safely update the launcher whenever it asks (it won't update the version number). But what may happen is that the list of possible mods on the side, the order may change to have a different mod pack (direwolf) at the top. So if you click "launch" it will try to install that pack for you, which is not the pack you need.

So make sure that you've selected the "Feed the Beast Beta pack A" - which is probably the bottom of the list.

Default FTB tips

I've found out a way to create an advanced insertion pipe (from Additional Pipes) with only standard buildcraft pipes. An insertion pipe works by inputting items into a chest as long as there is room and then switch to an overflow pipe. This is cheaper and more general than a diamond pipe.

What you do is you start from your output pipe, put on a wooden pipe, then put an iron pipe and last a stone pipe. The stone pipe is the direction the item will go if the chest overflows. Place a chest so the iron pipe (but no other pipe) connects to it (you can use sandstone pipes to stop them from connecting to chests). Use a wrench to make sure the iron pipe is aimed towards the chest.

On the iron pipe you place any sort of gate, the basic one good enough and cheap. Set the condition to "inventory full" and the output to "redstone output". This means that as soon as the chest gets full a redstone current will be set and the iron pipe will switch output. Due to the wooden pipe it will never choose that direction and it will therefore always switch to the stone pipe that we want as overflow output.

Note that a block must be next to the iron pipe on some side or the redstone current won't be transfered to the iron pipe itself.

If anyone has other tips, feel free to use this thread.

Nice I like it (been experimenting with iron pipes and redstone signals and this is going to help me.) Certainly a cheaper option if you have access to a well setup assembly table (several in the community have such, I have been fortunate that Tourok has been letting me use his recently. I expect Ducky has one in his workshop? I've not been in there yet tho lol) Just bear in mind if you wish to make everything yourself, it is much faster to use 2 diamonds to make 8 diamond pipes than it is to build the assembly table and lasers and schedule the gate work. Definately going to look into such options for the future tho.

My tip: Build a Redstone Energy Cell and recharge array, then use them like batteries, only for Buildcraft machines not IC ones. 1 power setup to charge your energy cells, then pick them up and plug them into what you want to use. Less engines needed.

We are already giving FTB tips in the beginner's thread, so in the interest of housekeeping, I'm merging these posts with that thread
