Mystcraft and you: Writing a stable world
Here's what it takes to write a stable Mystcraft world. I'm going to go through the notebook tab by tab. I'm going to start with the second tab, though, because it determines what goes in from the first tab. On the FTB server, we are not allowed to write new worlds without consulting with the admins, but I get the impression that there are several people playing single-player games trying to work this out.
- Tab 2: Biome controller
- Pick exactly one symbol from this tab. I always do this first.
- Tab 1: Biome
- Pick some number, based on your biome controller choice
- Checkerboard: Exactly 2 biomes
- Sized biomes (Huge, Large, Medium, Small, Tiny): At least 3 biomes. I do not know of a maximum, but I wouldn't push your luck too far.
- Single biome: Exactly 1 biome
- Native biome controller: 0!!! Do not add any biomes with this controller.
- Tab 3: Lighting
- Pick one and only one. This does not affect mob spawning. That's still controlled by the time parameter in tab 7. Picking bright just makes it look brighter, no matter what the time is, but doesn't actually affect the block brightness used to calculate mob spawning.
- Tab 4: Sky
- Go wild. Specify at least one of each sky, clouds, fog, and sunset, but you may add multiples and the game will blend colors.
- Tab 5: Terrain feature
- These are 'optional', but if you don't pick any, the game might add some for you, causing instability. Pick a couple you like so you don't get surprised later.
- Tab 6: Terrain generation
- Pick one and only one selection. If you picked a terrain feature, a biome, or any biome controller, don't pick void. Void is tricky.
- Tab 7: Time
- Pick one and only one of fast/normal/slow. If you want to add eternal day/dusk/night, pick one and only one of those, but they are in addition to fast/normal/slow, not instead of.
- Tab 8: Weather
- Tab 9: World modifier
- You may pick any, all, none, or multiples of these symbols. Everything but skylands will either cause instability, or is innately an instability itself. Pick dense ores 5 or 6 times and watch your world swallow itself whole, literally. Skylands is safe to add, though, and pretty.
