Connection Resetting
Hi,
I appear to be getting lots of 'connection reset' errors when attaching to the FTB server. Doesn't happen on the regular server. The only obvious thing is that my ping time is higher than I would like (591ms) but still not disastrous. It would seem that it always bombs on loading the minimap. Anyone else seeing this, or any thoughts on possible resolutions would be appreciated. Thanks, Cheith. |
I see it all the time. Just try to log in again and again until it works.
Oh, and updating 64 bit java might help if you haven't done that in a while. (Assuming you're on a 64 bit computer) |
Today when logging in I'm REALLY having problems with this... something is wrong.
Maybe we should create an EU server somewhere in europe to offload this one and provide us europeans (and possibly americans) with better ping times? |
no issues here, the server has just been restarted.

Yeah, did the 64bit update, did a 32 bit update just in case, looked up a lot of crap on the internet. The problem seems reasonably common with FTB.
I can usually tell if it will happen as the mini map loads in parts and then it goes boom before the map has finished loading. The server is taking its sweet time to reboot .... still can see it! Cheith. |
Sometimes the server needs a few minutes to "settle down" but why I don't know. It may relate to whether the chunk you are in has been loaded or not. After all, with all the machines, loading a chunk is a little more complex than before. But that is just a hunch. Trying again after a few mins should get you in.

Interestingly, after a reboot, I always get in first time. Small sample size I know, but suspicious. Once I start getting the errors I can sometimes get in after two or three tries, other times I give up after 6 or 7 attempts failing in a row.

Okay, today this was doing this to me just before tthe End battle with the dragon. I found that I would appear on the screen but the minimap wasn't complete for a number of seconds. If I moved before it was finished, I crashed out. If I waited until the minimap was finished and the chunk had been loaded for a sec or two, it was fine. Don't know if that work for everyone else.

Moving or not moving makes no difference for me. I bet that the longer ping time you have to the server, the more severe your problems get. And me with a ping of 400 ms always have huge problems.
When you lagged out you could get in after a second try, for me it would probably not be possible at all to get in until the server was restarted and working better again. |

^ This is prettymuch my story too, the bad ping is my end but I certainly notice/struggle alot more when I head into spawn or the center of town with alot going on.. I've taken to trying my luck later at night (my time) and it seems to be smoother and let me in easier just through lack of machines and players around that time. No complaint though, it is my end, but there is some seriously noticable server lag in certain places when it's got a large player pop and everyones new machines are running, certain streets I even avoid at peak times haha |
