City Suggestions

Phlexor had 2 great suggestions I thought we could discuss...

The first was to have street names and lot numbers. We could use this to help guide people around - rather than "my place is the red brick one on the NE of the city, past the sandcastle" type thing.... you could just give the person your lot number or street name. We can have these included on the future maproom we create.

The other was for me to do a sort of interview with people on their houses in the City - with screen shots and stuff. Which I could then post to the forum so others can find out interesting things about the other players constructions.

A map of the streets and lot numbering with the lot owner would really be useful! I like the idea of the interviews too - get to know more about the construct and why it was built etc.. ..there is always a story behind something!

I was thinking of getting people to do real estate ads for their plots.

Close to PT (portal transportation). High security area . Well lit. Parkland. Center of industry

Or may be not. We certainly need people to post in the The Miners' Gallery - The Older Gamers Forums about their city plots.

Interview Idea is awesome, made cooler if we use Sor's idea as well - a vid playing whilst the interview is conducted! like it - like it a lot.

I don't play FTB but the street names would be great. Frontier is mostly devoid of signs and I found the wild west completely by accident. I stumbled upon the community piston farms by mistake as well. I only found central station when the Admiral showed me the stairs out the back.

Street names with lot numbers and even a type of 'register' at spawn would help new players.

Bazz's mansion : 8 Creeper Street
Melon farm : 13 Enchantment Avenue
Ducks emporium : 5 Jungle Road

etc.

The Nether (on Frontier) is very well signed and most people have setup portal to their places. I know I have.

Sure it's not the same as the overworld but it's a start. Some people have also connected their place to the underground rail system starting at Grand Central Station under Admirals big glass hotel near spawn.

In earlier servers we had a list of warp links for people to use to travel directly to people's constructions (and a noticeboard in game giving them), though not everyone playing wanted their warps listed.

In a non-city situation having signposts to things is much more difficult because things are far more spread out and not as easy to give directions to - not everyone wants roads leading around to their place - it basically relies on people talking to each other in game and showing people around.

We plan to reinstate the ftb maproom with linkbooks to all the city plots and people's outer city places too.

On Frontier you can use the tectonicus map to have a look around to find things you might want to visit - Tectonicus Map

This would be great.. ..i would put my hand up but my construction is very new and i have a massive list of things i need to setup before i get things really rolling..
