Promotion article for our Mindcrack server

Now that we have got the Mindcrack server up and running, I think we need another homepage article. It needs to outline the mods we use and describe the worlds we offer and what we have done with the city. Maybe, a paragraph to each with a single image.

I was wondering if anyone would like to take this on? Our divisional journos and Admin team can help polish it up/format it, but I would love it if a divisional member wrote it. If you want an idea of what I am after, have a look at the articles in Minecraft News | TOG - The Older Gamers and Minecraft Events | TOG - The Older Gamers.

Ideally, this needs to be written in the next two weeks.

No budding reporters? While we can rehash Obsi's http://www.theoldergamers.com/forum/...ck-server.html , I was wondering if someone wanted to write something new.

One suggestion i would like to make is to see a screenshot of the instmod folder so users can see exactly what needs to be in that folder - also that little trick setting the version to 7 if 'Recommended doesnt load up properly'.

I could have a shot if i get the time, but it would mostly be a re-hash of what Obsi has posted. It is pretty thorough

Friday next week? There's no strict deadline, but I just don't want it to be old news and for MC 1.5 to beat it. So, the earlier the better.

First there was Minecraft, with it’s pistons, lego like structures and style, but this was not enough.
Not content with the stealthy creepers, TOG Minecraft Division opened the door to the unknown and unleashed Feed the Beast, MindCrack edition.
Living upto it’s name Mindcrack takes Minecraft to a whole new level, with over 30 mod’s to the game this has truly a lot to offer, and has blown more than one of the regular’s minds with all thats on offer.
Whether your new to Minecraft, or a seasoned vetern of Creeper attacks and zombie raids, Mindcrack offers all thats in the original game, but offers so much more. Ranging from new forms of redstone, to allow even more complex creations, dozens of different animals (Panda’s, Elephant’s Horses and Sharks) more technology and automation methods, and of course real world styled trains, passenger cars and freight wagons. Mindcrack has something to offer absolutely everyone.
Initially, we as a division started a small humble project known as Spawn City, we all grabbed a plot, and built to our hearts content, in this small area (each lot is only 60 blocks square) you have the many variations on design, style and expression of peoples personalities, from Sorontar (our DC’s) simple Grass hill, with it’s enchanting rooms beneath the hill (very Hobbit like) to the Soaring structure of Skoville’s stone archs, the graceful and elegant lines of Daedalous’ humble home, to Obsi’s Ranch.
The beauty of minecraft, and Mindcrack is that you are not restricted, you are free, t build what you want, mine what you want.
From this humble beginning the Division streached out to the four corners of the world, and there set up new homes, having Spawn city as our city dwellings we have been busy, for one I have transformed from a simple miner, to, Darkduck, Master Thaumcrafter!!!
Ok, well that might be an exaggeration, but Thaumcraft is yet another mindcrack mod, think of this as a form of enchanting, I can make candles (boring) helper golums (cool) Lightning, fire and Excavation wands (MUHAHAHAHA) as well as, a “Portable Hole” this allows me to pass through walls, but thats not all, I have farms, thanks to the Forestry Mod, meaning I have more wheat and tree’s and other goodies than I need, all of which is Automated, but I also have Big Gates I can open with a remote control, more machines that I can poke a stick at, and on the drawing board is completing my train workshop, my train track back to spawn, my floating school for the Magically Talented and Gifted (yes it’s going to be called Duckwarts), the possibilities (and time spent in game) is endless, but thats the beauty, you can spend 5 minutess in game, or 5 hours, and still enjoy the content, the company and accomplish alot.
Minecraft Mindcrack can be as big a time sink, or as small a one as you want, you can accomplish community tasks, like that of the TOG Zoo.
Tourok and Obsi are the chief Designers of our Zoo, this will hold Tourok’s reptile collection, some Horses kindly donated by Obsi, My Elephant, Panda, Scorpion, and SHARK! In the end it is hoped we will have most of the available tamable mobs in Mindcrack in the zoo for all to see and enjoy.
But thats not where it ends, While there is a magic, and technology side, along with an animal side, there is also pets, fish in bowls, oh and did I mention there are over 72 species of bee for you to breed. That’s right you can do some bee keeping, getting honey to make ambrosia (a super effective potion) you can automate the process with red power or build craft pipes, you can use genetic splicer’s to create your own bee with the traits you desire (within reason, no refund given for mutant bee’s that attack you).

So if you have a copy of Minecraft, or you are looking at getting it, swing on by our forums, say hi, we are more than happy to welcome you to our community, you will be able to get tips, advice, help and give it too. We are all learning and thats the beauty of Mindcrack, there is so much to learn, so much to do, you will never be bored, or lonely (the server is never quiet).

That is sounding great Duck. I think you have taken a great direction and there are plenty of opportunities for pictures - some machinary, one of the city from the sky (or the map image), some machinary, the zoo (or we cheat and use a pic of Tourok's private zoo), something magical (maybe wisp and golem and cauldron if possible).

The only thing that was left out was Twilight and the Myst worlds. Perhaps a three way split picture of the Myst worlds would be suitable (ala http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_pioneer_%28painting%29).

I have photoshop, this is easily done - so it is just one image and same size etc. Can do two side by side, crop, collage etc etc

Provide some images and can work some magic tonight. :D

Sorontar 5th February 2013 03:48 PM

I have no images on hand, but I am sure someone can go and screenshot some classic pictures of the worlds and their main features.

My original thoughts were to have a rectangular image divided into three sections next to each other by a diagonal line (or zigzag), but vertical lines or a space would be fine. We don't want to overdo the images, so the Twilight world could probably do without an image (or add it as a fourth section). If four sections then perhaps they can be quarters of the image.

The overall image can't be any larger than the ones seen on Hunger Games in Minecraft | Minecraft | TOG - The Older Gamers (which are slightly larger than when displayed, and yes, I know that is bad form for a webpage). The smallest they would be half of the size of those on Minecraft | Minecraft | TOG - The Older Gamers.

to Obsi’s Ranch.
My city house is a "garden", not a ranch. My not-very-roman-at-all place is my "ranch" :P (I was just working on the basic structure of my house first, then I'll finish leveling the land and build the horse stables :D)

Feel free to use any of the pics from my beginner's guide to photoshop or whatever.

While I love Duck's writeup - I'm wondering if we should keep it more article/factual based and leave out the bits that are just talking about what Duck is doing - I find it breaks the flow a little while it's talking about the server in general, then onto his plans, then back to general...

Just my thoughts, feel free to disagree :D
