Default Reimbursement Questions

So... what happens when players are out in an NPC town, see a stationary werewolf, turn around to run, but are instantly dead because it's actually not stationary and killed them five ticks ago?

There's no possible retrieval due to distance from bed and that the chunks unloaded given I'm nowhere near that place.

Marvel having similar issues too; went mining, repeatedly disconnected, then a werewolf killed him and lost everything without being able to defend himself.

Well I fell right through the ground after making a teleport, hit a lava lake and lost my entire inventory due to server lag. Was told there is no reimbusement. Shit happens essentially.

Although given that the chunks unload, as long as no one else load those chunks, your stuff will still be there. The despawn time is only counted down while the chunks are loaded.

Lag is an ongoing (and unfortunate) part of gameplay on the MindCrack server. Sometimes it is going to cause issues like that. I imagine most players at some time have lost gear in situations like that.

Our policy has always been (even on Frontier) that we don't replace items that were lost due to lag or other factors of gameplay - we generally only reimburse for things like theft.

If we were to reimburse people for loss through things like lag - we'd be forever asked to replace stuff, with no way to verify if it was indeed lost, or if it was lost through a player being careless or through no fault of their own.

Nightime is more dangerous now due to things like werewolves, so players should be extra cautious venturing out. Likewise players should be cautious while mining - not only for lava but also mobs lurking in the dark.

For example when you're mining - take your valuables back to a chest every so often, so if you die you only lose what's on you if you can't get back in time - and your other goodies are safely in a chest. When out and about in villages or around buildings - check out the windows before walking out, to see if anything nasty is about.

A jetpack is very helpful too, as it lets you fly straight up to avoid some dangers.

If you can swing the materials, an Enderchest and Enderpouch are totally worth it. With the Enderstorage mod we have, you can sync a pouch to a chest and carry the pouch with you. Combine with a couple of canvas bags, which you keep in the Enderpouch, and you've got a lot of storage that is persistent even if you die. You'll lose the Enderpouch, but your stuff will be safe at home in your Enderchest.

I realize it doesn't help your present predicament, but I really recommend using this tactic going forward if you can. Your stuff is much safer this way.

(I tried to paste the recipes in, but the forum doesn't like them. You can look them up in NEI. As of right now, the pages on the Feed the Beast wiki are accurate, also.)

The chests are a bit expensive. 2 obsidian, 4 blaze rods, an ender pearl, a chest, and a piece of wool.

After the chest is placed, you will see three colored bits on top. You can apply dye to each bit individually, creating a code to identify the chest. It is possible to make a chest private by clicking on the latch with a diamond. This will consume the diamond, but it also means that someone else making a chest with the same color code cannot access your things. Given the general nature of the TOG servers, I tend to think this is unnecessary.

A pouch requires 4 blaze powder, an ender pearl, 3 leather, and a piece of wool.

If you right click on a chest with the pouch in your hand, the three dots on the front will become the same colors as the bits on top of the chest.
Right clicking with the pouch selected will give you access to the contents of the chest, no matter where you are. If you die or lose the pouch, the chest is still safe at home where you left it.

I made a couple of canvas bags. They take a stack of string each (8 canvas, each canvas is 8 string surrounding a stick), but a flax farm makes that simple.

Each canvas bag holds as much as your player inventory. Right clicking with the bag selected in your hotbar opens it up. Fill them up and put them in your Ender pouch for lots of safe storage.

Not sure I understand.... I thought only the player who made the ender chest can access it - if 2 players chests are colour coded the same, does that mean they will conflict and both players can access those chests?

These are not vanilla ender chests. They are not restricted by player. All chests coded green, white, blue will access the same storage space, regardless of who creates or places them.

Ahh, good to know. That would make it a bit difficult to work out whose stuff is whose if more than one person uses the same colour code....

Maybe we should have a system/thread where people can claim a certain colour combos - to try and make sure people aren't doubling up?
