If the case of it being on the books then why not remove it from the get go? Instead of leaving it weeks after the server has been up. I am not saying you don't do a good job but seriously it makes it hard to do anything with out the risk of having it removed.
I believe we have only removed crystal chests (due to lag) and propose to remove this (also because of lag) while the server was going. Everything else was done before the server was started. So it hardly seems to be a case of it being hard to do anything on the server for risk of it being removed.

It would seem that your mind is made up Sorantar and it makes it hard to reason with someone who already has their mind made up.
The admin team have discussed it and feel that since there have been other people reporting system lag with this mod, we might be able to get better performance by removing it, since it does not seem to be an essential mod to have.

Arguments for keeping a mod are always listened to - but keeping it to aid 3-4 players who are worried about theft of items, is probably not a good enough reason to keep it, if removing it would increase performance for all the other players on the server.

While theft of items is a serious thing, if they aren't reported in a timely fashion there is not much we can do to investigate and resolve the issue. There are personal safes and there are other ways to hide belongings if you're worried about theft - but we would rather the issue be addressed to prevent it happening in the first place (by finding and dealing with the culprit) - rather than having players hide their stuff in fear of it being stolen. But we can't address issues if we don't know about them.

I will point out that we've successfully been running servers for this Division for 2 years now, and have not had (nor I'd argue, required) the use of safes to keep people's belongings safe. We have very few incidents of theft/griefing on our servers. It is unfortunate we have any at all, but when they are reported properly, we're generally able to deal with it straight away to prevent any further problems for other players.

Further to Obsi and Sor, I personally asked the forums when the server was being discussed about what mods to keep, 1 person said "I like it" several said to remove it.

It was then that this mod was to be removed, however given several ongoing issues it was not, there is documented evidence this mod causes lag, this is recent accurate information opposed to information gleamed from stuff past versions (tekkit related info).

Further more, V8 of the Mindcrack modpack has new issues to bring, including increased CPU and memory usage, so upgrading would cause us more problems, possibly requiring the removal of more mods, disabling features, and fiddling with settings to not break more parts of the mod pack.

of course you could use the personal safe that is part of IC@, or you can use Thaumacraft to make a safe room. Both these options are not associated with the MFFS mod.

Finally as stated, theft and griefing ins not tolerated, if you have an item taken you MUST notify a mod, if you do not we will not be able to help.

I love playing Minecraft but things like this make it unfair to players, especially when other things are being put on the back burner which have more impact on the CPU.
Do tell, I will admit that I am not an expert on this mod, I will admit I do not know all there is to minecraft.

However I feel I must paraphrase Cool Runnings here,

I am comming from 20+ hours of forum reading, searching chats, mod note and bug forums reading, etc etc etc. These decisions are not made without long chats with the other admins in this division. Now while you all enjoy playing Minecraft and also reading Wiki's (and referring to Tekkit Wiki's) I and you other Admins are often busy reading up java forums, FTB and specific mod forums to get details how to make these packs working as smoothly as possible.

So if you have information as you infer you do plese do tell, and provide links to your sources, because knowledge is best shared not horded.

I don't think donations would cut it.
To give you an idea of the resources of the TOG server, which is split
90% Minecraft
5% TF2
5% Mumble

It has consumed 790G of Bandwidth (In + Out) since Jan 1 2013.
It averages around 6G of RAM used, and at least a constant 100% CPU on one CPU thread, bursting to around 100% of 5 CPUS.
It also uses 139G of diskspace, mostly split up amongst the various services, with a big consumer being the TF2 maps mirror etc

Now I don't want anyone to feel like they are hamstrung by my charity, and so I urge you to shop around and see what a server like this might cost you, particularly hosted in Australia. If you can find something that works for you in terms of price and features, go for it. It would be worth understanding exactly how much you might be up for, it might be less than you think!
If I was to sell this machine to one of my customers, I would probably quote in the order of around $400-$600/month, depending on how much bandwidth they pre-paid. (we normally sell bandwidth for $1/Gb)

To me, the most sensible way is to keep trying to optimise the usage of the server - clearly a bunch of badly written mods chew way too much CPU, way more than they need. Its cheapest to get everyone to work together to do it as well...

If the mod removal does go through and further to the exchange post...

Formicium in exchange for:
Iron
Ruby
Diamond

Reason I say this is because those are the materials one would use to initially extract it (iron tools or Ruby + Diamond in a laser).

I rent servers for other divisions and know first hand what issues are had by doing so

These are a few of the things that have happened

  • server company folded - had to start from scratch
  • we had an unusual spike in use over 3 days - service was withdrawn and money not returned by host (9 months worth)
  • no real time support, servers and providers dissappeared for over a month no explaination
We are exeptionally LUCKY to have exe's servers and they are awsome consistant and stable.

Having to give up some shared safes (perspective people) is not a big ask.

Personally I am happy with anything that is decided, the mods/admins NEVER do anything for their own benefit, it is purley for the benefit of ALL and lets face it you cant always please everyone.

cheers

I have been on this server since Sept 2011. I fully support the efforts and decisions of the admin team even when it does not necessarily suit my personal desires. This is simply because they have proven to me and others repeatedly they ALWAYS have the best interests of us ALL at heart.

I thought the admin were very brave to expand our game play with all these mods given the inherent complexity which very few, if any, really appreciate including myself. We should commend them highly for their sense of adventure in exploring new and exciting limits for our game play. Any activity this complex will always need adjustment or fine tuning from time to time especially at the start or with any new additions. They are the ones who have the job of many hours of (unpaid) work and effort in choosing and making these adjustments which they have always done with our input weighing heavily on their decisions. In this I do not envy them for a second for not everyone will always be happy with these decisions even when made with the best efforts, care and intentions.

Recently I had some griefing which I promptly reported when found. It was thoroughly and carefully investigated as always. I also lost a weeks work with the reset of my chunk around my new dwelling which I was told was through no fault of mine. Both matters were dealt with correctly. In fact they did more then I thought reasonable to try and investigate and compensate me for my inconvience and loss. I felt sad they had to waste as much time as they did and would have been satisfied with less effort and care.

Finally I am grateful to Exe for his generosity in providing us our world to explore and develop. Anything that makes this act easier for him to provide should be seriously considered as a small way of showing our gratitude.
