Default Removing Modular Force Field System (MFFS) from Mindcrack server

This weekend, we will be removing the Modular Force Field System (MFFS) mod from Mindcrack. As far as we can determine, this is not a popular mod and its purpose sort of goes against the community aspect of our servers. Our testing has also shown that it can be a huge CPU hog.

If you do use it and have arguments against removing it, speak now in this thread before we use it.

[UPDATE 22/2/13: Removal now suspended]

What can we do with our harvested formicium? Can we trade it in for equivalent goods?

Certainly put forward a similar rarity item / ore / crop and the admins will discuss it.

Admins have been informed that MFFS security storage allows people to have a shared safe. Could you please remove any items from the storage this weekend.

Removal of the MFFS mod will affect your ability to use these or retrieve your gear. Another secure option, though not shared, is a Personal Safe.

Hi,

I will stick my neck out and put up an argument for keeping the system.

6 of us use the system for the safes and as a mob killer near our base. The safes work great so we can share things like diamonds, tools etc without the possibility of them being stolen. If they get taken from the mffs safes then we know it was one of us eliminating any issues.

I foresee there being more issues with other items in the game causing lag than the MFFS. I don't think it is fair to remove this part of the game. Perhaps put a ban on the force field side of things but not remove the mod all together. If the mod is removed I have no way of sharing my goods with my fellow settlers in our area. It is nothing personal but as I have had equipment taken in the past, I find it easier to use them and just allow certain people access to the items.

You state it isn't in the best interests of the community and that I can agree on, IF ALL of the members of this community were honest. In a perfect world I could leave 64 stacks of diamonds out in a chest and nothing would happen, but unfortunately I can't.

Please do not remove this mod and look at updating the server to the latest mods as these address cpu and ram issues. The rain is obviously an issue and from what I have read it seems to be an issue relating to the version we are running. The old farms are also a resource hog compared to the new multifarms that are available in the new forestry pack.

If we could not just have a knee jerk reaction to one little thing and try to address the issue as a whole.

If this whole post means nothing and your hearts are set on removing this mod can you please give me atleast 24 hours notice on here as I have A LOT of gear in these safes.

Thank you

We need posts like this more often. The admins want to give you the best game experience. If a mod is popular we need to know, as we try to give players a server they want to play on. If banning a feature of a mod reduces lag, then that's another option.

But certainly want players to speak up on any issue. This is YOUR home.

Removing this mod has been on the books since before the world was started. We have had informal checks as to who was using it but this is a more open survey. Our investigations showed that the CPU usage could be significantly affected by the mod. For that reason, we are proposing removing it.

We also are giving you time to respond, which is why we haven't set a precise date. There is nothing "knee jerk" about this.

No player on our servers should require security from other players. If things go missing, players need to report them. There is no ifs or buts here. If you don't report it, the admin team can't react. If we can't react, the situation won't change. If the situation won't change, we will have to remove this server and revert to only Bukkit servers.

If the case of it being on the books then why not remove it from the get go? Instead of leaving it weeks after the server has been up. I am not saying you don't do a good job but seriously it makes it hard to do anything with out the risk of having it removed.

There are other issues at hand with the CPU and it not just this. I can't find any substantial evidence to state that the MFFS in the CURRENT config that we run it causes issues. Sure if you put the force field up it can cause issues but we do not use that.

There are other issues that are more pressing than this. It would seem that your mind is made up Sorantar and it makes it hard to reason with someone who already has their mind made up.

As for reporting theft, I have and I will not hash it up here but we know the outcome.

I love playing Minecraft but things like this make it unfair to players, especially when other things are being put on the back burner which have more impact on the CPU.

Yes, many things affect the CPU. Many things that we learnt from the test period in December/January resulted in us changing modpack and setting up the division's rules as they are. With this many mods, we will learn many things as we go and have to make changes. We are giving the division a chance to argue for us to change our decision as well as adapt its gameplay before anything comes into play. This happens all the time in Minecraft servers when mods prove faulty. It has happened in the past on our Bukkit servers.

At the moment, considering that we don't pay Exe for the services he provides for these servers, we are lucky we have got anything at all, especially since Mindcrack is way more expensive to him than the Bukkit servers.

As to the issue of reporting theft, Penthrox, you are taking a public posting personally. My message was to all the division, not you specifically. It just happened to be you who made the statement I replied to.

Personally I would like to see the Security station, security storage, multi tool and mffs cards stay.
But I also know the intricacies of cannibalising a mod over just removing it.

And it is appreciated, but we need not be lucky, if it's more grunt we need, I'm sure some of the division will gladly donate.
