I'd assume this is ADSL... when I use the term "port" it has nothing to do with establishing client services. (IE: Our FTB runs on "port" xxxxx).

Unless you're talking about being load balanced to another switch/router because of the offline time. I would be really surprised to see anything less than a week to be honest but your mileage may vary and depends on a lot of factors. In a cable environment with enough spare overhead clearing out someone's previous connection isn't high on the to do list

Yes, it is ADSL. I have established my modem/router (combined unit) is correctly port forwarding port 25565 so it's not that firewall. (And as I say, it's working, then not, then working.)

So right now, I'm sort of narrowing it down to a time of day thing. Will see if issue replicates tonight at a particular point in the evening.

Extended time with google has found nothing that suggests a reason or fix tho. Nor can I find any information about why a single service (minecraft) is affected like this when nothing else is. My next 'guess' would be that it's due to the way java interacts with the packets sent/received. I even did a tracert to the tog server while I couldn't connect properly, and it was all really low ms hops so nothing stood out along the path as being a problem...

Minecraft isn't the most stable game when it comes to network communication, so if any game should have problems on a temporarily wonky connection I wouldn't be surprised if it was Minecraft. Other games, such as battlefield, probably has a more robust network engine, resulting in you not noticing any problems there.
