Default Community Trade Station Open

I have set up a trade station for community use.

It is located in my Obsidamid, One block NW from spawn, by foot take the arcane elevators to the top and then back down into the trade room.
There is also a linkbook to the top in the wasteland.
If you make your own books, make them to the 2x2 hardened glass on top of the obsidamid.

Currently available:

Gunpowder to Iron Ore, Copper Ore, Tin Ore 1:1
Copper ingot, Tin ingot, Iron ingot to each other 1:1
Gold ingot for Tin ingot, Copper ingot, Iron ingot 1:2 and vice versa
Copper ingot, Tin ingot, Iron ingot to Electrum 1:1

Prices were set by discussion with other community members.
The price of gold will come down as supply increases.
There is a notice board on the wall with a chest with signs next in it.
If one of the trader-o-mats stops vending please throw a sign up so we know to refill it.
And also chuck a sign up with suggestions for trades, ratios ect.

Sweet - thank you!

So how do they work? I've only used the Forestry trade station thing (where you basically post a letter with your stuff to trade and it posts you a letter back with the stuff)..... but that doesn't seem to be what happens here....

And I love the lexicon! I hate having several different types of ores and ingots.

(For anyone who doesn't know what that does, you stick your ore/ingots in the space on the left, you can then switch the top block to the type of ore/ingot you want, click the button and it transforms your stuff to whatever you selected - Awesomeness!)

You feed it the required input eg 64 copper it will swap that for what is in the safe and give you the set output.

The economy mod (bukkit) has a shop that does exactly what the OP says. It lets you sell stuff (eg coal) for money, so you can buy good stuff (eg red stone) for the advertised price. The natural supply/demand will dynamically adjust the price for the next transaction. Id like this for frontier but was afraid to mention it.

Ive got more iron than i can poke a stick at and would trade it dearly for coal (TRUE). If a dynamic shop / marketplace were available i could do that 24 x 7, with supply/demand prices keeping it fair. Another good part is that someone has to sell it before you can buy it. This means it is a zero gain closed loop. For those that dont know what it means, the shop doesnt provide an unlimited amount if goods. You cant buy gold until some first digs it up and sells it.

Any way, i like the mod and the market place concept. Adds to the mplayer and community feel.

We've discussed different trade/commerce mods before for Frontier and previous servers. Generally the idea has been liked by only a few. So not enough interest to add it to the mods.

Because what normally happens on our servers is that if someone has need for something, they ask and a bunch of people usually say they have spares - and are happy to either give it to them free, or trade something.

So we've never needed a formalised system, and have relied on the friendly and helpful nature of TOG to keep everyone all traded up as needed

I see this as a sort of middleground - basically just automating a mate swapping with mate type situation.

Frontier was not designed to be a game+mods. At the time it and Sanctuary were designed, players were surveyed and there was a very clear indication that they didn't want an economy system in either of those worlds.

The Mindcrack world is a different matter. This is mods + a game. If the mods come with a trading system, players can use it, as long as it doesn't hurt the server or the community. However no-one is bound to it. Players are welcome to trade or share resources and items however they like (short of stealing of course).

In the worlds of the future, we will see what we have when we get there. Minecraft is always changing.
