There are a few ways to do it.

1/ Use the Isolator on the bee you are after to isolate its trait. Once you have the trait you want (in this case Rocky Species Serum), then use the serum to innoculate any other bee into a rocky bee.

2/Keep breeding Rocky bees for a few days and allow the extras to build up (it should be dropping more than 1, it will not always drop more than one but most times)

3/ Dig for more

4/ Use the Fertility Serum on your Queen and she will produce more offspring.

What about frames ? Do certain frames promote more bee's or better chances of bee's ?

Soul Frames will increase your chances. If you wait till the new patch (when TOG update) you can use Mutators in alvearies

Is there any way to find out the humidity of an area in game?

I've noticed two types of grassland plains. One looks more dry than the other but other than looks, I am not sure the difference in the two.

Easiest way is to put down an hive and right click on it. It will say on the right hand side.
