I've just noticed that there is nobody in the server at the moment. For things to be resolved or balance themselves out, does the area around spawn need to remain loaded?

If there are no world anchors or quarries or world loaders setup to keep the area loaded, I'm working from home this week and can setup a spare computer to just be afk in spawn so things remain loaded if needed.

The server crashed/froze 20 minutes after the nightly restart. I am still testing things with and without me on it. The flux cleanup continued last night during the Wither battles on Frontier even though no-one was on the server. This suggests that the server keeps a check of all nodes regardless of whether their chunk is loaded or not.

So thanks for the offer, but we don't need players on the server to do what we are doing.

Currently the same as, or slightly worse than it was yesterday (we have been keeping track of load with no players, one player and when server had players) - though we're not sure if there is something currently running on the host machines that could be contributing to it being higher today than it was yesterday.

As we believe the extra CPU load is tied to the flux events, we believe that getting the flux level sorted out will reduce the CPU load.

The CPU load is back to "normal" now, but as Obsi said, there are occasionally times when it jumps up. I suspect that may be caused by activities by one of Exe's clients making reports or something. We can't detect that, but we can see if there is any change when our servers are turned off.

The normal CPU is still too high because of all the demands that Mindcrack places on it. This is costing Exe more money and us playability, so we are trying various attacks to improve it, but the simple fact is that Mindcrack is the cause. "Vanilla" Minecraft like the Frontier server is a lot nicer on the machine and Exe.

So for both the present and the ongoing issues, we are trying new tricks as well as cleaning up the Thaumcraft problem. CPU load will always be a problem for Mindcrack and we will continually have to adjust things to try and better manage it.

You keep mentioning Exe, but I have no reference point to understand these comments. My guess from context of comments thus far: Exe is the company that hosts the server?

exe (exekewtable) hosts the TF2, Mumble and Minecraft servers through his company Solutions First.

When we first started out playing minecraft, we were doing so on Fate's home server, which quickly had problems once we started getting about 6 people playing.... so since exe was playing this game with us too, and was already hosting the TF2 and mumble serves for us, he came to the rescue (again) and organised server hosting for us through his company.

(For reference, this was in Oct 2010 )

Because exe is a friend as well as providing us with our hosting for free - being nice to him in return, by being mindful of what resources we are consuming, is obviously preferred.
